Tablecloth......to use or not to use, that is the ???
Comments (2)I would like to see a picture too!! I use table cloths all the time, with pads under them! That's because I LOVE fabric and like making the cloths with trims and such. I get great pleasure out of changing the cloth several times a week on the breakfast table. If the DR table is not being used, I leave it with no cloth, just a runner/topper and centerpiece. If it will be used, on go the pad and cloth! If we are having a big crowd, I have table cloths to match for all three tables (DR, Kitchen and Den). The dishes, silver and glassware may be helter skelter, but the table cloths all match :^)...See MoreWipeable tablecloth for dining room
Comments (16)Wow, thank you all for posting! @dilly_dally: It's funny, but I had thought of using glass for a side table, but not for the dining room. I'll have to give it more thought... And thanks for the props! @cyn427: I had looked into replacing the windows a few years ago (the DR and LR both face south), but it's not a priority right now. As for the colors, the DR walls are Chestertown Buff (Benjamin Moore) and the ceiling is Benjamin Moore 1302 (no name, just a number). I worked with a great color consultant to get my house colors right. My DH calls her the Paint Whisperer. She was terrific and suggested that we paint the ceiling that dark red color. I was unsure but trusting and it turned out great. The LR green is actually two colors. Because the windows face south, the fireplace wall was painted a darker color. It's Mosaic Tile (also Benjamin Moore). The other three walls are Paddywhack (C2, which is my fav paint---luminous rich colors). @squirrelheaven: I will check out that possibility with my local Calico Corners and see what they say. Thanks for the tip! @bestyears: I googled Amy Butler and her stuff is great but too busy for me. It was very helpful, tho, to know that "laminated fabric" is what I'm looking for, and I'll probably spend more time just looking at that. @teacats: I did look at etsy (I have a currently inactive storefront there), but didn't find anything that was quite right. @tuesday: The den is painted in Oriental Silk (Benjamin Moore), which is a very soft yellowy tan. Thanks again!...See MoreHalf wall or pass through between kitchen and dining room?
Comments (18)Whether to do a passthrough, half-wall, or full wall all depends on how you want the two rooms to feel and function (both separately and together). So, I cannot tell you what will work best. However, my brother recently renovated his kitchen (nearly finished) and changed a full wall to a half wall between his kitchen and dining room. He tends towards more informal gatherings and he wanted to help the small closed-off kitchen feel larger and more open to the house. He does not like upper cabinets and with the remodel was able to acquire additional lower cabinets to make up for the lost storage. He has no stools on the dining room side of the half wall, though the granite does cover the top of the half wall. (In fact, the dining room is simply too narrow to accommodate a table and chairs and counter seating.) His new kitchen feels very open and light (the dining room is on a corner and light floods in from two large windows) and he is extremely happy with the result. Your inspiration picture is very lovely. The detailing on the window is beautiful and could probably be duplicated through wood trim on a pass-through if you would be interested....See MoreWould you use this tablecloth?
Comments (55)In that setting I think it looks fine. In general I don't like tablecloths that only hang a couple of inches over the table. I like them to almost hit the chair seats. Which means I need 70" wide tablecloths. Not something you'll find in every store. One day I was at Marshall's (or Burlington?) and struck up a conversation with another person in the table linens aisle. When I told her that I need 70" wide cloths and supposed I'd have to order from Macy's or WS she looked horrified. lol...See MoreRobin's Tablet Ansolabehere
