Engineered hardwood or Luxury Vinyl Plank (LVP)?
Comments (65)Another thing to consider when looking at the engineered floors is plank length. I just realized why I didn't like some of the photos I saw ... they had too many short pieces which gives the floor a choppy look and to me, it looks too much like a tile effect. The Uptown Floors suggested above sound great, and I will look at them more closely, but they still have "shorter" board (12" to 8 ft). I am looking at another company with board lengths from 3 ft to 12 ft. Those longer boards make a big difference in the overall look in a larger open floor plan. The longer boards do cost more, so I need to do some more comparisons and value of spending more for a more pleasing look. Their other specs are mostly similar. I think floors are going to be my hardest decision!...See MoreWant LVP and matching sheet vinyl
Comments (7)This is the biggest issue that I would use as the guide: " It is not a high end rental so I would like to be thrifty. " Vinyl is vinyl is vinyl is vinyl. Click vinyl is expensive to purchase and takes ++ effort for preparation = more money. Sheet vinyl is inexpensive and can go down over (just about) any substrate = save money on installation. Go for sheet material. It will do everything you need it to do. To make it interesting use a stone or tile look in the kitchens and baths and the wood-look in the other areas. It will still be cheaper than click vinyl...no I'm not kidding. If you are going thrifty...think sheet products (including carpet). If you are going for a nice-look (trendy or fashionable) then increase your budget. And the other thing you want to keep in mind: rental unit flooring has a life expectancy of 7 years. Yep. Pretty much one floor per renter (assuming they stay long term). So be prepared to spend this money over and over again...regardless of look/budget....See MoreLVP or SPC vinyl that looks like light-stained white oak
Comments (4)LVP has a vinyl core while SPC has a plastic composite or stone plastic composite, solid polymer core and WPC has a core typically consists of polyvinyl chloride, calcium carbonate, plasticizers, a foaming agent, and wood-like or wood materials such as wood flour. You can easily Google resources that outline the differences- they're very helpful. We chose Armstrong Empower SPC rigid core mostly because it was a builders option. I'd still choose a SPC or WPC over a basic LVP due to its ridigity and durability, as well as waterproofness....See MoreExperience with Twelve Oaks, Torlys or Cascade Vinyl LVP, anyone?
Comments (5)Great job, Karen! That looks so nice!!! I really like the look! Though I am looking for something in a much lighter shade, I really like how you have pulled the colours together, with the white walls, white cabinets and the grey walls! Together they look very nice with the darker wood grains. And you did it yourself too!? Amazing!!! Great job!!!...See Morerecordaras
