Comments (35)Yeah, my neigbhors asked me how I was able to achieve that many plants. They saw me working on the garden around early March. They were curious about the garden beds I was making. They saw the milk jugs. I explained to them what it was and also gave them the Wintersown site. I actually watched their reactions when they saw it. They didn't pay much attention to it kinda like "oh, ok". However, when plants started to come out/bloom, they went back to me and asked, "was that from the tiny greenhouse". :) I'm going to make more beds maybe by fall once my knee gets better. :D Thanks mnwsgal! :)...See MoreUh-oh...I'm liking Kelly Wearstler...
Comments (13)Well I'm back, and I searched around a bit more but still couldn't find the KW plate hanging I really liked -- it was nothing like the one I linked. In general, I don't care for plate hanging, but flyleft, I remember seeing in a magazine one she'd done which looked so random, so sinuous. The plates almost made the shape of a seahorse (not literally), but meandering this way and that, and they were hung much closer together than one ordinarily sees hanging plates. Anyway, I noticed it and the image really made an impression on me. I've no doubt there have been countless others who've done equally if not more interesting plate hangings, but they don't have the same loud, good PR she evidently does .... And I know what you mean about the price on those boxes! It's scandalous. Honest to goodness I cannot imagine spending $4,000 on a tabletop bibelot -- that $4,000 would have to purchase the table and chair, too! And help pay for children's activities .... I saw the pink one in a spread (maybe it was Domino?) on her guest house, and, as I wrote, I'm such a pink-lover that I zeroed in on it -- the color caught me eye. But I really loved the idea of it. I have a few little (teeny) silver boxes encrusted with a blob of amber, of malachite, turquoise, coral, etc. I guess it's in my DNA to be attracted to rocks on boxes! I wonder if that's the same piece you saw, because the wallpaper was (to my taste) revolting. The rooms reminded me of the worst of the '70s, all come to roost in one spot. Yech. But I did love that box! Here's a link to that article.) Ta-da! Here's the box: I was just noodling around her website, looking at her residential projects for that plate hanging, and I have to say most everything looked really tasteful and lovely. The only one which looked over-the-top was her home, Hillcrest House, and I kinda liked it in a Tony Duquette way. (I still cannot believe that crazy Sharon Stone got to live next door to Tony Duquette and that he made her jewelry. So unfair!) So I guess except for her guest house I like her stuff. Go figure!...See MoreOh boy, oh boy, oh BOY!!!
Comments (29)Thanks for the many replies. I'm back home now - for keeps! I've been on the road for three weeks in Illinois and as soon as I got home, I ran out to North Carolina (about a four-hour drive) to see this Magnolia! BTW, that house linked in this post (Phalen Funeral Home) is a beautiful home, but that is not a Sears Magnolia. The Sears Magnolia was based on a very popular style (Colonial Revival + Foursquare), but the actual Sears Magnolia is quite unique. Thanks again for the replies. :-) Here is a link that might be useful: Boy, am I glad to be back home!...See Moreoh boy... a cat happened to me tonight!
Comments (47)I certainly don't think I've stolen the cat. There are always posters of lost/found pets at the mailboxes, so I posted them on all the mail centers and in the stairwells of the apartments with e-mail address and phone number. If the people cared about the cat they could have put a collar with a tag on him instead of the crusty flea collar that I found him in. Jasper's vet is just down the street from the complex, so I will go there to see if anyone reported a lost cat. I've been waiting to have him vaccinated and neutered to see if anyone claims him yet, but I have an appointment for Monday at the low cost animal care shelter to get that taken care of. If I spend money on that and then someone claims him, they will have to reimburse me for the expense. They should have done it in the first place. I don't feel like a hero or a theif. If someone calls with an accurate description of the cat and pays me for the medical expense they can have it back. Until or unless that happens, I am going to be a good steward with the life that has been (even if temmporarily) entrusted to me by happenstance or the great Universe or whatever you believe in and enjoy every second of it. Maybe there are people on this forum who would rather me turn the cat back onto the streets so he can get run over by cars or eaten by predators in hopes that he will wander back to his original "owners". I placed an add on Craigs List. I've gotten 3 offers for Viagra and one offer to make a million dollars a month to work at home from a textile shop based in the UK. Then the add was flagged. There is a point at which you have to draw the line. Maybe I should quit my job and just knock on every door in the state until someone says the lost the cat I have found. Then I will be able to sleep at night since I'm such a horrible person! Some people!...See More- 4 years ago
