Hi, everyone, Saturday I posted pics and a message about my possible crested plumeria growing up. Then I very politely went back to photobucket and deleted the pics from there, thinking they were pasted here so all was cool. It didn't happen that way! lol I did finally figure out how to post pics and it worked great for me. When I first posted the picture this mermaid gem seedling was a meer 1 1/2" tall and you all weren't sure if it was a crested or not because it was so small. Now it's grown up a little more, and the distinctive four fingers are very obvious now. It has approximately 25 leaves on it. It looks like a mini shade tree. lol The 3rd picture is kind of blurry, but you can see all four fingers pretty good. So, now that it's bigger, can anyone tell me if it really is a crested plumeria? You grew these from seeds? What is the mermaid seedling? I haven't ventured this way yet. I've only propogated from clippings. I have 3 small trees and maybe 8 pots going since I first fell in love 2 yrs. ago. I'd love to try the seedlings. Always looking for a challenge.

Scott, I know what you mean about the "country stuff"...I see it in other people's yards on my drive to and from work. I have lived here for over 2 years. But since I rent from my parents, there will be no "country stuff" around here...my Dad is VERY picky! I live in Eagle Point (north of Medford), so I know where Cave Junction is. As for the "honkers", what I really don't like about them (besides the droppings around the pond), is the noise EARLY in the morning (they reside most of the time in the pasture right outside my bedroom window, the one you can see in the photo-to the right), and late in the evening. I love to see them fly overhead, and to see them when they have babies on the pond. And I don't mind the honking during the day. Funny, huh? Good luck in getting your collections going again! Thanks everyone! I had to open a Photobucket account. For some reason Snapfish wasn't working for me anymore. Yes, I do love my reds!! Even though you are so right Seil. Nearly impossible to get the shades of red to show up correctly. But for as much as I love my reds, I think Denali is taking the cake for me too right now. I'll take a few more pics this evening for you guys now that Denali is opening up. It's breathtaking! Thanks so much for all the encouraging words. And don't worry, I've got about 60 newbies this year. There will be PLENTY of pictures!!

Thanks for the many replies. I'm back home now - for keeps! I've been on the road for three weeks in Illinois and as soon as I got home, I ran out to North Carolina (about a four-hour drive) to see this Magnolia! BTW, that house linked in this post (Phalen Funeral Home) is a beautiful home, but that is not a Sears Magnolia. The Sears Magnolia was based on a very popular style (Colonial Revival + Foursquare), but the actual Sears Magnolia is quite unique. Hi, Cindy, I got the seeds from cookooznest on ebay. It's called mermaid gem. It's hot pink with a yellow center. Seeds tend to differ from the parent plant though. I think that's the thrill about growing from seeds. You may get a dull plant or an explosive beauty out of them. Time will tell. lol

Ruthann, I think a crested plumeria is actually a mutant. lol I hope someone will come in and let me know for sure if it is a crested or not. I'm curious to find out if the crested bloom or not. I do think they are rare. Crafty
