Oh boy is my husband in trouble...!!!!

I replied on another post about finding a neat piece of dead wood (supplied to me by a 75 to 90 mph wind storm that went through here a week ago) My son and husband were cutting up branches to put on the burn pile...I pulled it out and explained to them why I wanted it...

I went out yesterday to put it in the ground and put my bottles on it...

MY husband (not a DH right now)had put it on the burn pile and the fire was going. I could see it in there...but the fire was to big to get to it.

Grrrrr.

Son said "awww we'll get you another one"...

I doubt it...we've lived here 10 years and this is the first one I've found that I liked.

He's gona have to do some major "sucking up" to get outa this one....

Men are stupid! Subtlety and logic don't work when dealing with the male animal! It isn't enough to explain to them why they need to leave something along. You need to wrap it up with fluorescent tape and plant a 4 foot placard in the ground in front of it that states in black lettering "Touch this and you're dead, suckers!"

Been there; done that. Learned from experience.

Thanks for all your kind comments-----I sure wish I were a few years younger and Bob didn't have two knee replacements-----We could really tear up that sunny area but I will try to be content with one hole at a time Robert---the Rambler I ordered is Super Dorothy----Do you know anything about this rose-?-it is supposed to be hardy and my older sister's name is Dorothy so I thought I would try it. There are so many ramblers that I would like to try---I wanted Blushing Lucy but it was sold out as was Chevy Chase. Now I wish I could move my Ghislane de Felgonde out into this area but so far she seems pretty happy back in "Elba" which is rather shady. I could take cuttings from some of my favorite ramblers but at 78 years I can't waste any time---LOL---no time for the "creep--sleep and leap" idea---LOL the spot is ready and waiting---I'm so excited --I didn't think I would be getting any new roses this year. I understand all too well what you are describing. I am a mother of two autistic children, ages 5 and 3, the youngest is non-verbal and requires a lot of care. My husband and I have been together for close to eight years, and he is still in many ways, very needy and demanding for attention. I used to drop everything for him, even at the expense of my children, and I discovered he wanted even more. I had to make a choice...what was most important at this time in our lives? Early intervention for autism. I had to set boundaries with my husband. I approached him in a positive manner even though inside I wanted to smack him :D Men desire respect more than anything, so I had to be mindful of his needs, even if I felt he was being a big baby. I knew he was acting out his worry that we would be disconnected because of the intense work involved with special needs children. I had to admit that even if he came across as selfish, he still was expressing a desire to be close and intimate with me. So I approached him along these lines :(ahem) "I know you want to spend quality time with me, and that's great. Thank you for choosing me as your mate. As you know, early intervention for autism is key for our child. We have a huge job ahead of us, but we can do it, one day at a time. Here are my goals for our child for the next two months, and for the next year.( I typed it out for him to keep and consider). I want you to understand that this is my mission, this is my job. Just as I don't interfere with your job when you go to work, I expect the same thing in return. My job is 24/7, but I am working towards getting help. Until then, I am going to be very tired, physically and emotionally. Here is my calendar for the next month. ( I handed him a copy) If you would like a date night, please pick a day that is not filled up. Here is my daily schedule, with my chore list. (Handed him a copy of that) If you would like quality time, like an in-home date, please check my schedule to be sure it isn't during these times. I love you and want you to know that after the early intervention period is over, things will begin to improve as we adjust, and we will have more time for each other. For now, it is going to be difficult, and for that I am sorry. That does not mean you cannot be involved. We can find ways to be intimate as long as we work together as a team." Now my husband took a look at all I had to do. He could see it in writing how I did not have a lot of time or energy left over. He quickly understood that if he wanted to have quality time with me, he would have to get involved in my mission. He would have to set aside his needs sometimes for the good of his child, just as I had to on a daily basis. We had to be a team, or we would lose the intimacy, and no one wants that. This worked for me, but I had to be consistent, and I had to remind him frequently at first. He seemed resentful for a while, but when he saw the wonderful changes in our children, he got excited and inspired. This was a fantastic surprise. I assumed I would have to do it alone, but my hard work paid off. Now we go to marriage counseling for "preventative maintenance", and practice communication skills. Our marriage is just as important as our children. But sometimes, you have to go it alone while your husband pouts. You have to do the right thing, even if he doesn't understand. I hope this helps!!

I certainly don't think I've stolen the cat. There are always posters of lost/found pets at the mailboxes, so I posted them on all the mail centers and in the stairwells of the apartments with e-mail address and phone number. If the people cared about the cat they could have put a collar with a tag on him instead of the crusty flea collar that I found him in. Jasper's vet is just down the street from the complex, so I will go there to see if anyone reported a lost cat. I've been waiting to have him vaccinated and neutered to see if anyone claims him yet, but I have an appointment for Monday at the low cost animal care shelter to get that taken care of. If I spend money on that and then someone claims him, they will have to reimburse me for the expense. They should have done it in the first place. I don't feel like a hero or a theif. If someone calls with an accurate description of the cat and pays me for the medical expense they can have it back. Until or unless that happens, I am going to be a good steward with the life that has been (even if temmporarily) entrusted to me by happenstance or the great Universe or whatever you believe in and enjoy every second of it. Maybe there are people on this forum who would rather me turn the cat back onto the streets so he can get run over by cars or eaten by predators in hopes that he will wander back to his original "owners". I placed an add on Craigs List. I've gotten 3 offers for Viagra and one offer to make a million dollars a month to work at home from a textile shop based in the UK. Then the add was flagged. There is a point at which you have to draw the line. Maybe I should quit my job and just knock on every door in the state until someone says the lost the cat I have found. Then I will be able to sleep at night since I'm such a horrible person! Some people!

In response to your question on wife vs. child and the priority they should take, this is a very difficult and sensitive matter. Many people have different opinions on it. Here is what I mean by my thought that your wife should come first Whn you are in a marriage, the best thing that you can do for your kids is set the example of a strong, stable and happy relationship. I grew up in a stepfamily and it was very clear to the five stepchildren involved, between my dad and stepmom, that his first priority was with her. This did not mean that we were not cared for or were neglected in any way! But anything that had the potential to come between them or add unreasonable stress to their marriage (including having kids move from mom or dad's house in with them when they had a full load of kids already) was not accepted. Although it meant we did not always get our way, we grew up respecting my parents and their relationship. Seeing their strong, united front taught all of us to better handle our own relationships when we were older. They have been together for 20 years and the hardest part of all of this has been handling the blended family. Where I have seen other marriages fail, it has been clear that they stand together and treat each other's needs as a first priority- before the kids, before anyone else in the family. This is just as you see in many, many stable marriages. If your child is doing well with his mother, and having him move in with you will benefit you personally, but cause upheaval in your marriage, you are setting an unbalanced example of how a healthy marriage functions. It seems like in today's world of divorce, this is one of the most common ways family priorities are being reversed to center on the kids rather than the marriage. Sure, kids have needs- different and often more demanding than a spouse. But confusing true needs of the kids vs. committment to your spouse is sure to create chaos. Your child will grow up to have his own relationships, but if you are committed to your marriage, you will spend the remainder of your days with your wife. Her happiness should be as important as your own and will provide a solid foundation for your son to learn from. Harming your marital stability will hurt your son more than you know. With that said, I agree wholeheartedly that she should not stand in the way of your relationship with your son. She should encourage and accomodate this relationship to the best of her ability. Since this is her first marriage, she is bound to feel robbed of some of your attention and some amount of jealousy. She is obviously not ready to have him move in with you, so I hope you don't force that on her. Sometimes having a good relationship with a child is possible regardless of where the child lives. But I hope she will come to a middle ground with you. She has responsibilities in this marriage too. You should not be choosing between her and your child. If it is a matter of your child truly suffering for her decisions, then there are issues between you and your wife that need to be resolved, and that child's well-being should be a top priority. Your child needs you more at times and in ways that she does not. Accomodating these needs of your child does not mean you have to push her aside either, and vice versa. In a healthy marriage, you should not feel that you have to choose between her and your kids. So, the complicated answer, and this is my opinion, is that you should NOT push aside your child for your wife. However, you should stand with your wife on these decisions and not force her to do something that will break up your marriage. Give her some time and ask her to come to a middle ground with you that will allow you to show your child what a stable marriage consists of. It sounds like your ex does not exhibit behaviors that are abusive or harmful to the son, and it seems awfully young to tear him out of his mom's household. I hope this works out for you. By the way, it does seem like a double standard that her parents are living with you 6 months out of the year. That must also be a burden on your marriage and one she may be pushing on you unfairly. If it bothers you, set your foot down and tell her that this also feels like an uncalled for intrusion in your life too. But if it's not, the two issues are completely separate.

DHs most us us got them and can't shoot them so we have to live with them. Training them is almost impossible, takes great patience but can be done over a period of years. Took me 22 but he pretty much has the idea now. An ocassional slip up means I get extra sucking up now and again.
D does stand for more than Dear or Darling in DH! Dastardly.....Dumb....Defiant...Devious and so on and so forth.
I keep tellin the gals I hang with who are pretty much single still or single again That if it has tires or testosterone in it's physical makeup it will eventually give you problems. All we can do is keep the maintenence up and fix the problems to the best of our ability.

My condolences for the burning of your bottle tree branch. I do know the pain caused by loss of a piece so perfect for my needs before it came to be.

Maybe it is time for another Garden Junk Full Moon Ritual to ask the God of Junque to bless us with great and usable junk. It has been a while since I've seen one done. LOL

When my dH does some "faux pas", (lately he does it more when I'm PMSing!) IT COSTS HIM!!! I go BUY a replacement!lol!!! Grrrr! Except...I just went off to cook (emergency, they needed me) at a bible camp, and forgot about diner/theater reservations to celebrate our 3yr Anniversary!!!! So guess I got some sucking up to do now!!!lol! Shoes on the other foot!!! Hope he's not cursin' me out on the web somewhere!!! lol!

My DH is the finest man on earth and so is patti's, calamity_j's, susiesunshine's and all the other WW here. Almost everyone of us here have a DH we had to force into helping our mission of repurposing junk into art and garden features. Not many of us are as lucky as your WW to have found a man who enjoys the benefits of cretive junque without coercion.

I don't believe mem are stupid, as I said DH's can be trained in time, with patience and you can't do that with STUPID.

Oh Gracious calamity_j how disapointed you both must be to have missed a wonderful sounding planned celebration. U do hope he will forgive you and you can find something just a fabulous to make it up to him. You were where you were needed when needed giving of a generous heart and that is part of your specilness. You will receive blessings.

awwww.......I'm so sorry Patti!! But maybe you WILL find another even better!

I gotta tell ya....my sister bought a couple storage bins at a yard sale that has wine making stuff in it and she brought it to me so I could try it out and make my own wine. Know what my first words were when she opened a lid?? WOW, I CAN MAKE A BOTTLE TREE!! she said well, a bottle tree...or WINE...I guess :) hehe..it has a corker,lots of pretty colored bottles,corks,things I don't even have a clue what they are,all for making wine. I have scuppernongs and muscadines, I think I will try wine, and a bottle tree:)

Kudz, You made me laugh with your wine-making story! Friends gave us some cool, HEAVY, transparent, colorful, glass Christmas balls. I think I surprised them when I said they would look so cool in the garden! AND THEY DO! LOL Our friends did see them recetly in the tree I hung them in. They thought they looked beautiful in the sun and liked the fact that we were enjoying their gifts year-round. Maybe I made garden junk converts out of them! :o)

Patti, I'm sorry about your "tree". I wish I could send you another from our woods.

aww, that's too bad. My hubby just laughs when I tell him what I want to do with my junk. He just got such a kick out of my excitement over those old wood table legs. He says, "Honbuns, we're going to have to get you a building to put all your junk in" I got a keeper.

botann, I thought some of the bottle trees in our inspiration album were good-looking, but you are right about to "each his own". World would be dull if we all liked the same stuff all the time. Your Army Ant is GREAT, would you mind if I put him in our album with the other metal creations? I looked thru all your photos...wow, unbelievably gorgeous!!! Living in the desert of Phoenix for 45 yrs makes it hard to believe things like that are REAL. Lucky you to actually experience that beauty.

Patti, very sad when the PERFECT piece gets burned before your eyes. When DH and I went to Holland I saw the most gorgeous wooden birdcage and I wanted it but he grumbled so much I didn't buy it. We were with his sister and she was telling me that it was riddled by wormwood, ugly - yadda yadda. Poor DH STILL hear's me go on about that! LOL

Botann that is one GORGEOUS garden you have there. I miss the smell of pine and seeing your garden brought back those sweet memories. I do prefer the smell of pine over gum trees.

Thanks for the compliments on my garden. I'm a serious gardener but I'm not afraid to have fun in the garden. I can't take it too seriously and fret over every little thing. My friends bring their dogs here so they can run. They sure have fun running free and they do no damage. The garden is almost dog proof because it's mostly trees and shrubs.

Okay...I guess I have to give him the benifit of doubt....He DID cut it and BURN it but he sucked up ahead of time....Out of the blue for our anniversary a few weeks ago he bought me new Canon Rebel XT....I was truly surprised...It was our 42nd anniversary...so you see...he must be worth something...I've kept him around a LONG time...and hope to keep him a lot longer...well....unless he burn more of my treasures...

I'll rag on my son a little...We recently tore down an old shed...rented one of those big trash bins they bring in ...While we were gone he got that whole thing down and cleaned out...only problem was...he threw away my super old bicycle we called her dute da dute...after the music being played when the wicked witch in Wiz of Oz was riding the bike...do do do do do...Mine looked like that one.

It was clear in the bottom of the bin and covered...I did rescue my rusty red wheelbarrow and an oval wash tub, they were at the top of the bin...but he threw away one of my galvanized watering cans and several enamelware bowls. I'm sure there was more that I can't remember right now. I'll probably be looking for them someday...oh ! I just remembered..my bowling balls...he got to them too...so he's on my list right now too...lol...

For those of you who don't know what a Crocagator is let me explain....

Three men got lost on a hunting trip in deepest darkest Africa... To past the time while waiting for help they decided to talk about the meanest animal on earth...

The first guy said that the meanest animal was the elephant, they could stomp you to death in a minute...

The second guy said it was a tiger, they could claw you to death in a second...

The third guy said no way... The absolute most meanest animal in the whole entire world was a Crocagator...

The other two guys asked what a Crocagator was...

The third guy says: a Crocagator is an alligator at one end and a crocodile at the other...

The second guy says if its a an alligator at one end and a crocodile at the other well how does it go to the bathroom.

Unclbuz, there's no bashing for not liking something. I have seen some stuff I wouldn't sure want in my yard. I don't have to love a THING for me to appreciate the FOLKS who make it. On here, we all share our 'pride n joy' and don't do bashing. That's what makes this Forum so special.
Just show us things YOU love, and we'll be supportive as always.

This is such an interesting post! :o) To each his/her own (That's what makes this forum so great!)...but my wife and I love bottle trees and the history of them. (If you haven't heard the history, you should research it on line. I believe someone posted it once on the forum.) We've been saving blue bottles for quite some time now and plan to tuck a blue bottle tree along the path in our woods. Has anyone seen Because of Winn Dixie and the bottle tree in that? Too cool!
