Lars - falafel question ( please everyone chime in!)

I have been interested to try falafel. We don't have anywhere nearby to buy, so I tried making it. First, I found what seemed like a promising recipe by a native of India. I made them yesterday, using garbanzo beans. They were meh.


I started poking around gardenweb, and came across an old thread, in which Lars posted his recipe. Other than using fava beans, it has about the same ingredients. But, the recipe I used called for two cups of dried beans (I halved it), but only half the amount of the spices. They were pretty bland.


My question for Lars, how many would you say your recipe makes? Hers says 30 lemon--sized balls. I suspect it is drastically under seasoned for our taste. Also, she says to process it to the consistency of couscous, but mine didn't hold together too well. It sounds like you make it much finer.


I'm open to any and all suggestions, hints, and recommendations!
