Need help sizing linear chandelier

Dining room is 12 ft L x 10.5 ft W. (Disregard rug in photo...) Dining table is crate and barrel Lakin 81 in. L x 38 W with 2 x 19 inch leaves (rarely used). The room is viewed lengthwise. There will be a set of metal and glass etageres (16 in. D) on one side of the room and another 16 in. D piece on the other. . I found a linear chandelier (Livex Denmark) that blends elements of everything in the space, but it is only 8.25in. W (x 40 in. L). There is also a 28 in. version and 48 in. version). Would the 40 in. 6-light version look right? Or is it too narrow?

Other option we like is Minka Lavery Vortex 26 in. diameter/round, but we really prefer the linear if it would work.

Here is your room layout. The brown line indicates an 8x10 rug. If you add the 16" etageres they will land right on the edge of the rug and I'm not really sure there is enough room for people to sit and move around. As it is there is only 30" from the edge of the end of the table to the window and entry into the room. Once you add any table leaves you will be outside the room area. A 81" table can certainly handle a 48" fixture since it is so very open in design..

Hi I need help deciding on the style and size of a dining chandelier. I just moved into a new home in Florida . It is a great room concept. So kitchen, dining and living areas are all one large room. First dilemma, the size of my dining table It is new and without a leaf it is 44x72 With one leaf it is 44x92. (Picture shows table with one leaf) I think it needs to be at 92. Seems too small without leaf. Thoughts please. So depending on size of table in this open format room What size of fixture. I have a tray ceiling for a 10 ft height in dining area. I am thinking antique silver chandelier as it would go well with the black buffet and I have silver accent pieces. The kitchen backsplash has some silver inset tiles. I like the drum shade look as well as some antique silver transitional pieces. I have one socket so 2 fixtures are not an option. Should I go with a longer oblong chandelier as opposed to a round or square. Picture show one of the drum fixtures I saw and liked. But it is 24 w x 17 h . Also tyle of pendants need to coordinate on large kitchen island. Thank you

I love the look of the orb. Have one in our Florida condo. I would buy the large in a heartbeat if I could send back for free. That is what I hate about online shopping. You are correct, busybee, the diameter is 29. The height is 35. That includes the crystal. I think having another person look at it with me will help me decide. I am back to thinking that the scale of the larger one is correct. Here is a pic of the room with the current chandelier which is about 25 across/tall. The chandelier looks wimpy in the pic, I think. It is pulled up really high to be out of the way during demo. Big block in room is old fridge getting donated.

I'd go by 'what size looks best in the room'. How high is the ceiling? The lower the ceiling, and thus the lower the light, the smaller I'd want it.

@S Kashani, without more detail about style preferences, finishes, or room length+width, it'll be hard to be definitive. However, IMO going 18" - 24" could work for you, where 32" would be too large. Post pics after you finish the project.

Thanks Beverly! Still working on all of the furniture arrangements. Trying to fit existing furniture into new house... so etageres may be moved elsewhere if necessary.

Would the 40 inch/6-light work as well, or would it appear too small?

If this is the only lighting in the room, you might want to think about 6 lights versus 8 lights. Also, your table is minimal in style, I don't know what type of chairs you have selected, and the chandelier if very minimal from the side view. You might want to consider a linear chandelier that has more going for it style-wise. Just a suggestion.
