Trying to install island range hood ducting but ran into a barrier

Hello all,

I‘m trying to install a range hood over a new island. I drilled a hole in the ceiling above the cooktop and wanted to run the ducting parallel to the joists all the way to the exterior wall. I encountered a problem when trying to visualize the path for the ducts. there appears to be a barrier (beam?) perpendicular to the joists about half way between the island and the exterior wall. The house has a sunroom area that protrudes out beyond the ”rectangle“ of the house, and it appears to run directly along the edge of that. Is it a beam? Can I drill a 6” hole through it? There is literally no other direction for me to go. It‘s either joists in one direction or this beam in the other.
