Patio Sliding Door curtain - extra wide

I have a large patio sliding door 124 inches wide. My wife and I are considering grommet curtain (one panel), but I think the curtain rod will require a center bracket (for support, to prevent sagging in the middle). With a center bracket, I cannot close the curtain all the way (from left to right).

I need ideas and design ideas as well.

Also I searched online trying to find a single panel grommet curtain that will fit my 124" patio door. I couldn't find one online. My wife suggested me that we can sew two panels into one panel.

My biggest concern is a center bracket. Maybe we should abandon our idea of having grommet curtains and go with a different type of curtains. I really don't know... your ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I would not put grommet curtains on a slider, they never seem to slide easily. Hunter Douglas has great options for sliders

IMO you need much more than one panel and at 124” you will need at least 250” of curtain and that will still look skimpy when closed . I happen to like grommet drapes but you need to explain why one panel. yes you will need to sew panels together no matter what . BTY grommets slide very easily as long as you use the proper rod and of course you will need a center support too. If you want real help post pics of the space , the slider and what you are thinking of for the fabric for drapes.

To all reading this post: First of all, the quoted post should be attributed to Brickeyee. My sincerest apologies for my error. Here's a copy-and-paste version with the relevant section. Posted by brickeyee (My Page) on Thu, Jan 31, 08 at 19:46 .... The track should also NEVER be attached to a header in a weight bearing wall. A secondary header should be installed with about a 1/2 inch clearance below the structural header. If the header bows (and they all do to some extent) it can cause problems with the track. If the wall is NOT weight bearing the header will not be loaded and you CAN omit the second header. Decker, You asked what I meant by a secondary header. The real answer is I don't know; I'm just parrotting what I've read. But the term was used when describing 2x4(?)as something to which the pocket door track would be attached. BTW, this door installation is not a DIY project. I'm just trying to second-guess potential problems in construction. Again, I apologize if I've opened a can of worms.

@meganhowlett did you ever get your Jeldwen door issue solved? I am having same issue, with same jeldwen door (mine has blinds inside glass), and wish I would have seen this thread before having this door installed and trusting my contractor (who has since quit without giving me the paperwork for the door, all because I questioned the door, the installation, and the amount I paid the contractor for the door).

I have a patio door with a single sidelight the same width as one of the patio doors. It looks like a 3 panel setup but only two of the doors open. I think they are 36" wide but would have to double check. So a bit wider that your existing opening. Looks similar to the door in the picture but i have two doors that open.

To clarify my numbers. Take the width of the window. Add 10%., That's width x 1.1. Thar's how much the total width of the curtains will cover. When the windows are pulled back all the way so that the window is completely uncovered, the amount of wall that the curtains will cover is 10% of the width of the window. That is. you have to allow for, in your case, 14.7 inches of wall space to be covered when you open the curtains fully. This is for light weight unlined fabric. You will have more of the wall covered with heavier or lined fabric, according to the formula I gave in my previous comment. As for not being able to pull the curtains back over the needed supports for the curtain rod, you can get a curtain rod that will let you do so. You need to look for a specialty rod, not one where the rings surround the rod.

Patricia, so I will need a center support...okay that means I'll need two panels (for the both sides, left & right)? How do I keep the curtain "open" that will allow me to use the sliding door?

Fabric... I am not sure which one is best, but I don't want thin fabric like lien. I might go with either velvet, cotton, polyester, or maybe blackout. I understand that velvet and blackout are heavy.

I will post a picture of my sliding door - maybe tomorrow.

Here are the pictures. I am sorry that these pictures doesn't look good, because of bright daylight coming into the living room. I should be able to take better pictures at night-time.

The door width is 124 inches (with trim around the door). From the top of trim to the floor is 81.5 inches.
