Design Dilemma Bathrooms Home Decorating

wall color to go with this type of wallpaper for powder room

We’re updating a small hallway powder room and liked these removable wallpaper that we saw online. I’m thinking of doing an accent wall using one of these designs or a similar type of design. Perhaps using a chair rail to do half wallpaper and half white color / neutral color tone wall? What colors would work well to show off this wall paper design? Has anyone used this type of design in their decor? I don’t have too much knowledge or experience with interior design and don’t want the space to end up looking too busy or too seasonal (looks good in summer but weird the rest of the year). I like boho but modern designs. Please help me figure out what color schemes or decor ideas to pair with this wallpaper look.

It looks like both a very dark green or black in the background. A color like that would look good on the remaining wall surfaces. Here are some BM options in the order I like.

Oooh! Thank you so much for the suggestions! Edgecomb gray is actually the color that I have on the walls of the hallway that is outside this powder room. I do like the everard blue but I also like the Muslin. I guess the real dilemma is I don’t know whether to go dark colors or go lighter colors with this. I like the idea of painting the other walls darker greenish black but don’t know if darker colors might make the small powder room look smaller and perhaps pairing with lighter whiter colors would make it more airy?

Thanks everyone, I like the lilac color suggested above but it may be too much with the purple rug. I'll need to get a sample to see. My daughter DEFINITELY prefers pink of all the colors in the wallpaper.... although because she is 4, I do wonder if she will outgrow that preference soon. I chose a wallpaper that I thought would work for her for a number of years, but I'm not sure about the pink wall color. I guess I can just repaint at some point! :) I don't want the colors to be too saturated because it's a Tudor home so the windows are smaller and it's overall a bit dark. I don't want to contribute to the darkness with walls that are also very dark. The colors I did try were shades of pink/rose that came from the wallpaper, so thanks for validating that was a good strategy. The trim will be Simply White by Benjamin Moore. The furniture is a chocolate color - we've had it for a while, but I think I may replace it with a white set soon to brighten up the room. Question based on a couple of comments above: I thought we would select the bedding last since it's easier to change out and adapt to paint colors etc. But it sounds like I should pick that earlier and then find a wall color that works? I didn't realize this was the best order of operations for this process. Thanks!

The powder room is all basic white only color is the flooring. I tried to share a photo of the flooring but could not copy and paste. The flooring is 12 x 24 EMSER Swiss Gauli polished. Can you provided some suggestion?

We need more pictures of the room. Will the fixtures be in the same spot? What color will they be. Are you planning on tiling behind the vanity as in your present powder room or are you switching to a vanity with a framed mirror as in your other photos? I would paper only one wall - the one behind the washbasin, if you are going with the pedestal. Then paint the other walls a lighter shade of the same color. Both of the papers you showed are lovely, but sorry I disagree with your decision to avoid blue because you have blue in the kitchen. I think it is more harmonious to carry colors over from one room to the next. So if you really want yellow or green, you might look for a paper that has a bit of navy with either of those colors and then use navy for your towels and other bath accessories. I do agree with ILoveMod that the floor is too earthy and rustic for the paper. If the flooring is also in adjacent rooms, I would stick with that flooring and look for a more muted, olive green. Below is the kind I would look for. And then I would get hand towels in that muted green and navy. You really need to get a little sample of the paper and hold it against the flooring tile and see it in the lighting in the powder room. Of the two papers above I prefer the top. If I used that I'd consider painting one small wall or a soffit or even the ceiling navy. I like the middle one a lot too. With that you could paint the walls yellow, but not too bright. Good luck with it and please post again to let us see the finished room.

I’d do an accent wall only and skip a chair rail, as it will be too busy. It’s hard to recommend a color - what color is your floor?

You could buy a sample pot of white and a dark color in paper and get a feel for which you prefer. A powder room can’t feel much smaller due to the dark paint, but it can feel more dramatic

Maureen this was so helpful! Just seeing the two rooms you posted I’m definitely gravitating more toward the first one accented with white. We want to replace the current tiles as well (they’re a darker beige color right now) but are waiting until we’ve done the wallpaper and the paint. I’m new at home decorating (this is our first home) and I know there are so many shades of white out there...I get confused when I even step into the paint aisle. Is there a certain shade of white that would work well with this or does it not matter?

If you speak to the paint consultant they’ll show you the difference. There are whites with grey, blue, green, yellow and brown undertones. Bring home a few of each. Once you decide on the wallpaper, look for the tiles next. Choices for tiles are smaller while paint colors are limitless. Lay out the wallpaper, tile samples and paint chips; it will be much easier to decide and coordinate. Always chose paint last.

Any color you pick from wall paper would work. Depends on color you want to pop up.
