Im going to do it anyway! Paint over wallpaper.
Comments (3)I too had a real hard time but I finally found the trick to getting it off easily (no sizing was used on our walls, I am not even sure they were primed!) Anyway, I used paper remover from SW. I put a few ounces in a spray bottle (sort of a super concentrate) and filled with hot water. I used the wall paper tool (wall claw?) (little handle with the wheel that makes little holes in the paper) to go over the section then did it again...the more holes the merrier. Next I sprayed the solution on the area soaking it. Now you walk away for a full 15 minutes. Next repeat spray. Now again, leave for a full 15 minutes. Now spray again and start to peel off paper. It should come right off. You then should spray the area again and wipe off residue. Eventually you will want to clean the walls then prime and paint. Its a lot of work but likely less work than if your painted over paper starts to peel....See MoreCould you please suggest paint colour or wallpaper for this room?
Comments (2)I love wallpaper, but I wouldn’t suggest it for this space. There are dropboxes and soffits all over the ceiling and some interfere with the vertical walls. I had the same issue in my lower level, so I painted everything one color…everything. I used a brown, B.M. Racoon Hollow to deal with other issues. Your space is somewhat similar, except you have the bar area. Leaving it black, paint the ceiling and boxes black and walls something like Gray Owl....See Morewall color to go with this type of wallpaper for powder room
Comments (6)Maureen this was so helpful! Just seeing the two rooms you posted I’m definitely gravitating more toward the first one accented with white. We want to replace the current tiles as well (they’re a darker beige color right now) but are waiting until we’ve done the wallpaper and the paint. I’m new at home decorating (this is our first home) and I know there are so many shades of white out there...I get confused when I even step into the paint aisle. Is there a certain shade of white that would work well with this or does it not matter?...See Morewallpaper over lead paint; how to remove the wallpaper??
Comments (6)It depends a lot how the paper was put on and what kind of adhesion was used how hard you will work to get it off. When you wet it and warm it you want to get it to the point where the paper lifts right off. The issue after that will be the remaining glue. This is where it can get really hard to completely get the glue off to the point where you can paint it without disturbing the lead paint. Also, one thing you may discover is that you do not have a fine finish that will look good painted on the plaster underneath, and that there is in fact no paint at all of any kind in some rooms. They will need a new skim coat anyway. It then becomes: do you have enough glue off to adhere a skim coat? Whatever you do, just be careful. People get all bent out of shape about asbestos and mold but neither of those are really much of a danger in an acute exposure situation, but "lead stupid" is forever . It dissolves in water, it can get dispersed in the air, etc. and if you get it all over the place it can get VERY expensive and hard to clean it out of the house afterward....See Moreeverdebz
