I think they look nice and actually like the stark contrast. I would try and get more and or better lighting in the kitchen. Why would you have not painted cabinets before the tops and backsplash?

White cabinets would really brighten up this space and bounce beautifully off the floor. It would certainly give a sunlight feel to the kitchen. Also, a big fan of a blue/gray island plus it would provide a great balance! Good luck!

It seems like you've got a warm tone kitchen so I would suggest the white paint options you noted or Benjamin Moore Simply White. For the island, I love the dockside blue but another suggestion would be Van Courtland Blue by Benjamin Moore, it's got more of a lighter hue that would be good for minimal sunlight but still have a blue/gray hue that would contrast the white.

Thank you for the suggestions. I like both Simply white and Van Courtland Blue. I asked our contractors and they can only get Sherwin Williams paint or they can ask to match. Should I match or just pick a Sherwin Williams color?

I, personally, have the paint matched. It's much closer than if I was to try to identify the same color/shade in another brand.

I have white perimeter cabinets (Medallion White Icing) and a blue island (similar to BM 1622 Mineral Alloy). I’m very pleased with the color combination.

Your kitchen is about the same size & layout as mine. Would you mind sharing how much you paid for the quartz countertops?

We live in southern California, I think it was about 4-4500 k for all the counter areas you see there (labor and material etc).

Your updated kitchen looks GREAT! I am trying to decide what to do in mine right now. My original idea was some shade of white with some shade of blue island. After sharing my idea, the comments started flooding in about not painting my wood cabinets - or painting uppers and leaving lowers unpainted. The only way I’m leaving some unpainted is if they are completely sanded down so I can change the color of the stain.

I can now use your kitchen as an example of the white/blue combo I‘m thinking about!

Q - were your cabinets originally 90s oak - which you then gel stained? I’m asking because if they are oak, how does the grain look painted? Thanks!

I think these cabinets were made out maple. I did have some built in big bookshelves that had prominent grain when they were stained but turned out well once painted same color as the back cabinets here.

Are your floors stained on-site hardwood or did they come pre-finished? I’m asking because I really like how your kitchen has turned out - and I’m thinking about being a copycat (as my mom used to tell me - “Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery“ - every time my younger sister would “copy” me - ex. I cut 6” off my hair - 4 days later my sister got the same exact haircut).

I might have missed it - but what did you go with for your backsplash?

Oh - and I know that you already had your countertops but . . . Are they quartz or marble? Everything really looks nice.

I may go a with a little “moodier” blue on my island - but I really like yours too.

Hi dmac1108. The floors are pre stained. The backsplash are herrinbone patterened white subway tiles. The counters are quartz (which I highly recommend over marble). And the blue island, a moodier blue would be a great choice.
