NOW I can see it...and the name change efforts failed....now what?

I think the simplest route would be to simply start a new account with a new user name, perhaps ONTARIO_GAL or Still_ONT_GAL.

You should be able to go into your profile and edit it as you wish.

In the upper right portion of the screen is a "Your Houzz" tab. Clicking on that will generate a drop down with 'edit profile and settings' as the first choice. Clicking on that will give you options to change or edit, including any name that is publicly displayed....this is what you change to your preference.

It is my understanding that any changes to your profile info can only be made by you. And FWIW, there is NO requirement that you must provide your real name at all. Houzz most certainly does not have mine!!

Agreed. You should definitely be able to change your name that shows as your user name. It will be the 2nd name question in the edit section I believe.

Yes as Richard showed you must hit the update button at the bottom. I said save but it is actually update. Thanks for the nice graphics Richard!

When I try to post from my phone my "real" name shows. My screen name shows when I post from my computer. I have not figured out why. Someone suggested that it is the browser on my phone. Perhaps everything is going through my Google account. I don't know just what it is, but perhaps yours is similar. For now I only post when I am using the computer.

So I am not able to help you get the name you want, but I do understand that it happens.

Unless Houzz has changed their policy, the publicly displayed name can be changed any time, but the user name can be changed only twice per year, IIRC. As soon as I read that user names were viewable on some devices (browsers?), I changed mine, years ago.

I notice that your profile picture, forget what it is called, the letter R is identical to Google accounts. Did you sign in that way?

You may not be able to access your account if you have an old password without the @&* etc. Couple of months ago I wanted to change something and was unable to access my account to even change the password. I had to set up a new account. You may have to add a number to your old name. I have no idea how to delete the one that you have currently. I could not even send Houzz a message about it. I would hit enter and nothing would happen.

I have been using my android phone for a long time now and I have not experienced any of those problems. Mine is exactly the same as it always was. I use Chrome and Firefox on my phone.

I have ravencajun in all areas for a name. No other names, no other information other than the email address.

Houzz is so much fun.

I did exactly as other posters had suggested and updated, using my old ont gal name...and it stated "already in use" and would not let me continue.

Yes, the R is the same as you pointed out as the google one....yes, I use google on my phone and that has to be where
Houzz has picked it up.

I will do as others posters mentioned, and if it will allow me to, I'll build a new account.

Ravencajun, when I started my GW account, I used my real name for user name and chose a display name. The user name was private, as was the email I listed. I think it was when Houzz took over that I found out the real name/user name was visible to some devices or browsers (I don't know which). Once in awhile another poster will address me as @myrealnameismama_goose (with hot link), so I know that name appears on some devices.

One of the quirks I found last night/very early this morning. Could not sleep and when I turned the computer back on it had updated. I had to sign in on many things including here. Once again it did not like my password and when I used my email for a link to reset nothing happened. I tried several times then gave up. This morning I tried again and the link for the reset worked. Reason is beyond me because I did use the correct email address earlier.

Houzz has been glitchy recently. I've been using the same Paint bitmap file for drawing kitchen plans for years. This week, every time I'd try to upload it, it would hang up and spin. I finally had to change it to a jpeg file. Also, if I upload a drawing, then make a change, there is a certain amount of time I have to wait to save the new changes. I recall that happened once before with an automatic update, then with the next update, it resolved.
