8 Quick Changes for the Impatient Decorator
Change the Lampshade and Roll Up the Rug! A Fresh Look Can Be Easier Than You Think
Occasionally I get a wild hair and need to freshen my space. This does not mean that I head out for a shopping trip each time the urge hits me. I couldn't afford to given the amount of times I am stricken with what I consider to be "The Designer's Curse." According to my husband, we are never satisfied. Fussing with this, moving that, a little bit to the left, now to the right. You get the idea.
In an effort to conserve funds and preserve my marriage, I perform quick fixes here and there to quench my desire for change. Though I've never been a smoker, I think of it as having a stick of gum instead of a cigarette or a bit of fine chocolate instead of the entire blasted candy bar. What do you do when the impatient decorator rises up within you?

Though I've never been a smoker, I think of it as having a stick of gum instead of a cigarette or a bit of fine chocolate instead of the entire blasted candy bar. What do you do when the impatient decorator rises up within you?
1. Introduce exciting color via lampshades. Cover them with fabric or paint paper shades in an unexpected color.
3. Bring your outdoor furniture indoors. During warmer months, this option celebrates the current season and provides a light airy feeling to your interior spaces.
4. Change the knobs on any furniture item for a fun, fresh update. Semi-custom furniture has never been so affordable.
5. Roll up the rug. Without the need for warmth underfoot, roll up the area rugs and give your beautiful wood floors a chance to shine.
6. Simplify. In lieu of an elaborate table setting, choose a simple arrangement in a complementary color.
7. Give your old furniture a glossy new makeover. A quick coat of spray paint followed by a lacquer finish will extend its life on your floor plan.
8. Add a rustic element to your modern decor. This stump made of petrified wood adds personality to the space and combats the "fresh off the showroom floor" look.
