New floors, doors and trim: engineered hardwood? white or wood doors?

We have a cozy, 1940s era, story and a half home. We are in the process of updating and replacing some of the interior - really, it could use a complete interior overhaul, but that's not on the table. For now, we're going to replace most of the flooring on the main level, and the original cheaply made fir doors. For the flooring, I think we've decided on engineered hardwood, in a warm, medium finish maple. (We have Karndean LVT in Elm in the separate, adjacent family room.) The question now, is, for doors and trim, should we go with white/cream painted wood, or a real wood finish? I lean toward the white, but want something to stand the test of time, and something that matches the character of an older, somewhat quirky, house.
