You should go to SW, or another paint store, and pick up a few swatches. Take them home and hold them up to your counters and cabinets. Fold them if necessary so your eye can only see the colors you're considering. Try it in sunlight, shade and with lighting. If you think you like a color, you can purchase a $6 sample from Sherwin Williams. Use a simple foam brush and paint the color on a quarter piece of foam board (WalMart has them, as would an office supply store). Then you can hold it up and see how it looks next to everything on a larger scale. I think the Kilm Beige is so neutral that it would work with the counters and pick up that light color in the travertine. It's hard to tell about the cabinets. You want to try them next to each other. Colors are affected by their surroundings -- you don't want the color of your cabinets to make the paint look too yellow or too pink. The only way to tell is to play with it.

Marybeth, I just use a photo editing software called Pixlr. It's free online and there is also an app. I should have clarified what I meant when I said the backsplash will read yellowish. Right now the room is yellow, so the backsplash is going to reflect that and read yellowish. I think once you get all the walls painted another color, it will play off those colors and not be yellowish. I would recommend painting a sample directly next to the backsplash to give you a better idea how it looks with the paint color. I think a grey would also be safe. Agreeable Gray is one that plays well with cream tones.

Have a look at the colorography lab at ‘the land of color .com’ It breaks down lots of popular colour into their key attributes first. Hue Family - to which does it belong and where within that Hue Family does it sit? Value - how light or dark does the colour appear? Chroma - how near to neutral or how saturated/colourful? LRV - how much light does it reflect or absorb? Even just knowing the Hue Family alone, would allow you to combine colours from the same Hue Family. They will have a shared common thread. This would be a monochrome palette. Choosing a colour from the opposite side of the wheel and you would be creating a complementary palette. Also you can narrow colours down even further. e.g. If a colour with a Value of 8.1 feel too dark in your space, then you know you are looking for colours of 8.2 and above, to give the light feel you need. 🌈
