Hi - there is a way to measure the colour of surfaces using a little device. (Color Muse)

It’s particularly helpful when dealing with tiles/floor/worktops, so you know to which Hue Families those colours belong. No messing, no guessing. Having that information is so useful when trying to find companion colours to work alongside them.

In the absence of that and not being in situ, we are just guessing.

Divine White is quite a colourful white, which may read quite creamy, possibly even peachy next to your other white samples? Is it this you don’t like about the whites you have tried or how they sit next to the work surface?

MaryLee...thank you for responding. Yes, I am finding that the choices are looking pink/peach. On the wall now is Sea Salt. Maybe that is messing with colors as well.

Also how do I use that color graph to figure out what color?

I do understand the difficulty when working with such near neutral colours.

Does the Divine White trim run through into the bedroom as well?

I mean are you completely tied to it? No problem if it works well with the floor and work surface, or does it feel off with them too?

For down the line, if you think that every white/black/grey/near neutral surface as well as the more obvious saturated colours, belong to a Hue Family, making relationships between colours of different materials becomes a lot less complex.

Have a look at the colorography lab at ‘the land of color .com’ It breaks down lots of popular colour into their key attributes first.

Hue Family - to which does it belong and where within that Hue Family does it sit?

Value - how light or dark does the colour appear?

Chroma - how near to neutral or how saturated/colourful?

LRV - how much light does it reflect or absorb?

Even just knowing the Hue Family alone, would allow you to combine colours from the same Hue Family. They will have a shared common thread. This would be a monochrome palette.

Choosing a colour from the opposite side of the wheel and you would be creating a complementary palette.

Also you can narrow colours down even further.

e.g. If a colour with a Value of 8.1 feel too dark in your space, then you know you are looking for colours of 8.2 and above, to give the light feel you need.

Thank you, Marylee. I will check out the website. The Divine White is on every trim and door in the house. Rest of the house is a warm color/tile but for the master bed and bath they mixed grays and white.

Maybe think too - are you hoping for a colour which is lighter or darker than Divine White?

Possibly the same Hue Family as the English Channel cabinetry or same as Divine White?

Or might you like to introduce a 3rd Hue Family, such as the green mentioned above?

Even answering those questions can help.

MaryLee..I went back to SW and talked with the lady about hues, tones and such. I had a better understanding of the process for sure! Still trying colors but I get it now ;)

My master bath has very similar colorays: white quartz counters, tan/gray “driftwood” type floors, chrome fixtures, Ben Moore Gentleman’s Gray cabinets, white subway tile, BM Chantilly Lace woodwork. I went with BM Revere Pewter for the walls. It’s a nice “greige” neutral.

I just looked at that color on here!! It’s so pretty with the navy, cream, grey scheme.

I know this is an old post but could anyone share a photo of origami white in your home? I have very red wood floors and worry the yellow will pop and clash.
