I think if you want a "basic" gas stove that is easily serviced, and you live in a remote part of northern Canada (are there any NON-remote parts of northern Canada? Haha :-) ...well then what you want, above all, is a gas stove that does not have computers or electronics in it. Those are always the first things to fail and fixing them requires a technician who is familiar with that brand (or can get a manual for that brand so they can look up the error codes). And then you end up having to buy a replacement motherboard or whatever, which is expensive... It just makes much more sense to get a range that doesn't HAVE any such parts, a range that is purely mechanical, "old" technology that will last and last. So I'm going to give you a link to a range that is maybe on the higher end of your price range (it's $2299), but is both basic (NO COMPUTERS OR ELECTRONICS, other than electronic ignition which is very basic) and yet also excellent (made in Italy, fabulous performance, wide range of BTU's on the burners). And then here's a link to a slightly different Bertazzoni, which starts at $2399 for the liquid propane version (and I think that might be an error because usually LP ranges are more expensive that natural gas, so you could ask AJ Madison if perhaps they meant to say the $2399 was for natural gas): http://www.ajmadison.com/cgi-bin/ajmadison/X304GGV.html These prices are in American dollars, but the exchange rate right now is like $1=$1.01, so it comes out the same. It's true that if this range ever did break, you would have to order parts that might take a while to come, but I'm guessing based on where you live that that is likely to be true of just about any range you can buy. So the key is to pick a range that is less likely to break--and that would be a range made with simpler technology. It's surprisingly hard to find such ranges. Almost all of them are made in Europe, and most of them cost a lot more than this. Oh, and one of the reviews for that second range on AJ Madison says, "Customer service is excellent; called for replacement wok ring, arrived in 3 days." I strongly urge that you do not buy Proline. I recently purchased a Proline insert for my custom hood. I had the hood built around the specs for the Proline insert. I researched liners and was intrigued by videos put out by Proline. I actually called the company to get more information on a liner. After speaking with a Proline rep they convinced me that this would be a good liner. I was concerned about the low price, but the rep assured me that was a promotional price, and they wanted to get reviews on the product. My review: TERRIBLE, MISTAKE, CHEATED. Model: PLFL CL 3416D. The description of this liner is that it is quiet. FALSE. Stand next to a jet engine during takeoff...that is how loud it is. If you intend to have a conversation in the same room, be prepared to yell at each other and even then you might not be heard. This liner is unusable if you intend to be in the same room. It is so loud you can hear it outside the house. The boast "runs at a maximum noise level of 4-5 sones, or the volume of a quiet conversation, meaning that it is extremely quiet" right on their website - it's an absolute lie. When I contacted Proline and asked for help with a solution to the problem their attitude was "too bad, you bought it, it's your problem". They said I installed it incorrectly. It was installed by my professional, licensed general contractor. The home inspector actually failed the final inspection in part because of the Proline liner. The inspector said air was blowing back down into the cooking area. I found mounting holes in the housing for the fans that wa blowing air back down the liner. I had to cover them with duct tape. I remodeled my kitchen and bought a custom hood. The hood was built around the dimensions for this liner. Now i am stuck with it. IT IS ABSOLUTE GARBAGE. Buy a Venta Hood or Z-Line...don't buy a Proline. Junk and no support. Beyond disappointing. My plan now is to gut this piece of junk, purchase a remote blower and figure out how to install it into the attic since I am stuck with this junk. Seriously, do not buy this liner and don't do business with Proline...they make false claims on their website, they do not stand by their products and their customer support is no help at all." UPDATE: Proline has now changed their website on the sones rating. They duped me, maybe I have saved some other unfortunate soul from falling for their false advertising.

Kelly, You'll find that the people at Art Culinaire are WONDERFUL to work with. While I'm not in Canada, I had some concerns because of my location as well (Alaksa). The service issue isn't an "issue" because it is a basic gas range. Anyone who is trained to work with gas ranges (Wolf, Viking, etc) is able to work on a Lacanche. If I were you, I'd call and talk to Ryan about the costs. He was very kind to provide us with exact quotes within a few mins of our first contact. I saw lots of dots on their little map (of where they have ranges installed) in Canada :) He will also have the customs figures available for you so you'll know exactly what to budget. I have a Cluny 1400 and couldn't be more excited about a silly appliance! I did fly down to look at it before purchase, but I think I'm the rare bird there. I've talked to so many folks who only saw it on the web sites before purchase, but they all still love theirs (I have never heard of anyone who doesn't). You might visit some of the older Lacanche threads here (Do a search on Lacanche) and while they're quite long (we all like to brag about our babies) you will see several discussions about the oven sizes and many questions answered about that in the threads (Like how big of a roaster can you get in etc). I believe that the Savigny is the same as the Volnay (I liked below to the site with a volnay) and the oven is bigger. The sully and the fontenay also have the larger ovens as well (I'm not sure how much space you have). Personally I'd kill for a Sully 2200 :o) But then again, I'd have to kill....my neighbors, so I could bust through the walls of my condo into their kitchen to make room for it LOL Ryan is the sales guy at Lacanche US by the way. Do pop out an email to him or call and let him help you with those cost isses :) He's wonderful to work with and won't pressure you to purchase or anything silly like that (They just don't do that at AC!) And best of luck finding the range of your dream. I personally can tell you that even though we haven't finished our remodel, through good and bad, the one thing we've enjoyed is petting that silly range as we walk by it heh heh It's gorgeous!
