side by side ranges- bad idea?
Comments (44)TO --- Ann-SoCalZ10b SunStZ22 If you read the through the thread (it is long) then you see that Issac Wong used a 60" Vent-a-Hood. "Isaac Wong 4 years ago Nope, no issues -- have used both ranges AND both ovens plus 1 warming drawer at the same time. I have a 60inch Vent-a-hood." I'm pretty certain Isaac Wong used either: 1. 60" Vent-a-Hood PRH18460SS or 2. 60" Vent-a-Hood PRH18M60SS which has less CFM than first hood Here is a great list of Vent-A-Hood 60" wide options: https://www.uakc.com/cooking/hoods/wall-mount-hoods/?resperpage=90&results=16&TYPE%5B%5D=wall-mount-hoods&Brand%5B%5D=Ventahood&CFM%5B%5D=1200+-+1300&Width%5B%5D=60&WADbSearch1=Submit...See MoreIs This a Good Idea or a Bad Idea?
Comments (6)Thank you both for your input. jerry, I didn't even know they had a battery backup system. I will look into that for sure, especially now with the rainy spring weather that is coming. sweeby, thanks for your honest opinion. I've never seen it in an actual application & that's why I was asking. I do have carpeting in another basement room (the dry side), but wouldn't want to take the chance of water damage on the walk/out side. Also, I wanted something that would be easy to keep clean since this room goes directly to the outside & thought this paint technique might accomplish a nice terrazzo look without the worry of damage or huge expense of ceramic tile or hardwood/laminate. FWIW, I'm not trying to mislead anyone or raise any red flags to a potential buyer as water seepage would have to be in the seller's disclosure statement anyway. Water seepage in the basement on a regular basis isn't the problem....losing electricity to run the sump pump is. Guess I am back to square one again trying to figure out the best surface for a basement floor. Thanks again, for your replies....See MoreIs this sink a bad idea or a good idea for my kitchen?
Comments (9)Thanks for all of your thoughts! Mamadadapaige & Desertsteph: My off-to-college kids are my girls, and the lack of laundry floating around here now is a silver lining given their absence! But, my son leaving? Can't go there yet! He may require at least 10 minutes? Desertsteph - I'm 5'2". Glad to hear your shallower sink works for you. A shallower sink might be an answer for me. I don't like leaning over for an under-mount, deeper sink, but I DO like being able to keep dishes out of view when needed. I've never had a farmhouse style sink, but it seems that one would mean less leaning...? Drachiele - You make beautiful sinks, and I'm sure you've done lots of research on both sinks and faucets. Your explanation of how the aerator in a faucet would affect splashing makes a whole lot of sense. We are currently planning a Waterstone Fulton faucet on the main kitchen sink. Is there a number or something online that I look at that determines how effective an aerator is? Somewhat like how a stainless sink would be measured by the 14/16/18/etc gauge? Anybody have any thoughts on how easy/hard it would be to keep a solid granite sink looking good over many years?...See MoreDouble owners' suits: good idea/bad idea?
Comments (20)Well sure, nobody can predict the future. But that doesn't mean we shouldn't try! Our first home was intended to be short term. It was in an area with questionable schools, but we didn't have kids yet. Our plan was to be there 5-10 years and move before we had a kid in kindergarten. We were there seven years and moved when our eldest was four. Our second/current home was intended to last us "until the kids were in college" but we lacked the foresight to know we'd LOSE OUR EVER-LOVIN' MINDS and decide to have two more kids. And we realized when our dog developed a disability that it's extremely unfriendly to the mobility-impaired. (Plus side: she weighed 100 lbs so we got a LOT of exercise the last year of her life. :/) So we're moving forward and applying what we've learned over the years towards our best guess is about what will work for us. What more can you do? Important to note: I've come to love this plan (which isn't very bright, not yet knowing if the BRs will fit upstairs yet, but what can you do?) The only reason I wanted a first floor master was for eventual mobility issues (3/4 of our parents have health problems which make stairs difficult), not because I want my bedroom on the main floor now. The major drawback to the rough sketch we started with http://ths.gardenweb.com/discussions/4345095/floorplan-feedback-very-early-stage is a lack of playroom space on the main level which means, IME, all the toys will end up in the living room. A main level master would make an excellent playroom/craft room. It's close enough to the action that it would actually get used, plus there's a door. At this point the biggest drawback I see is the possibility that both we and an elderly parent might need to avoid stairs in which case either a small guest room on the main or planning for a future elevator might be a good idea. (Could whoever has the crystal ball please pass it my way?)...See Moreratflinger
