Maax has some really nice surrounds and IMO for kids and guests probably my choice but with a nice glass shower screen instead of a curtain this one from Dreamline is my favorite it is hinged so gives good water protection and looks so much nicer than a shower curtain. BTW your tub looks very shallow IMO why not go with a nice saoker and a surround probably cheaper than a tile job

Some prefer curtains because they can be washed, while doors on a track just accumulate dirt that even a toothbrush doesn't touch. You might look into Aqua-Fold doors that fold and then pivot in or out of the area. I think Lowe's carries them. Do you want to upgrade the plumbing fixtures? Looks like you could use better lighting; LEDs in the 4K range will help brighten things.

Thank you for ideas. I should have mentioned that we need something that’s easy to bathe small children. Lower tub sides and curtains make that easier. At our old house, we removed glass doors because tracks on edge of tub were painful to lean over and a bear to clean. Do hinged shower doors eliminate those tracks?

The ones above don't have a track and they fold. When folded you can also swing them in or out of the tub area for convenience. Here's the tub version starting to fold and pivot outside the tub.

If the youngsters are still small children, you need a tub. If the oldsters are over 50, you want several built-in handle bars for security and the tub should be easy to step into, not too deep. I would want a good grip bar at the tile wall edge near the entrance, and a second safety bar in the middle of the large wall. If an older person wants to take a bath additional handles may be necessary for sitting or rising from the tub. A porcelain tub will last forever. Be sure it has a non-slippery finish along the bottom for both old and young users. Put the controls where they can be reached from outside the tub so the shower water can be adjusted before getting in. The entry should be opposite the shower head to keep splashing minimal when stepping into the shower. A standard wall shower head plus a hand-held wand on an adjustable-height vertical bar is a good combination, and the wand is great for rinsing shampoo out of kids’ hair. A rain shower head is a fad....don’t do it. It makes showering just one’s body almost impossible while trying to keep your head out of the spray. I don’t want water running down my face when I am showering, especially when shampooing.
I prefer a professionally-installed tile surround over properly waterproofed walls. Don’t forget the safety bars. They need to be screwed into the studs for strength.
