drip stains on shower and surrounding tiles HELP!

When we moved in there were these drip marks in the shower and the surrounding tiles. I thought I could just clean it with vinegar and baking soda but it didnt work so far. It's really disgusting and embarassing and I really need advice on either what they are so I can research it or HOW TO GET RID OF THEM!! Thank you in advance!

I cannot tell, are those ceramic tiles? If so you could safely use LimeAWay. If those are hard water stains the LimeAWay will remove them.

The first treatment I would try is to get a can of Easy Off oven cleaner, the blue, fume free can. It will still have some fumes tho so use ventilation. It is a fantastic shower and tub cleaner. Just spray it down good, let it soak for a while then scrub with a scrubber type sponge and possibly a brush for the grout areas.

Once this is all done you may need to use some spray bleach around the bottom edge where I think I see some mold?

I can say, I have never seen any hard water streaks such as this, I hope someone has not previously used something harsh that etched the tiles and left these streaks.

If those are hard water stains, then your life would be better with a water softener. We have really hard water where we live, and the water softener makes such a huge difference. No more staining, water feels good on skin and hair, soap makes suds, and I know our pipes and water-using appliances like the refrigerator and dishwasher will last so much longer.

Although the window CAN be operated, my landlord, for the whole time I lived there (about 5 years) requested that it NOT be openned. As for the trim and molding, yes it's wood, and it wasn't holding up well. When I pulled it all apart, the window trim and sill completely splintered, in spite of my being as careful as I possibly could. So right now, the trim is holding up nicely, because it's all brand new stain and urethane. But I give it a couple of years, and it'll start to deteriorate, as well. The ONLY safe way to have wood in a shower is to completely seal it up with a marine paint. Anything less, and you're asking for trouble. But I don't know what I'm talking about. Just ask my ex-landlord. He'll tell you. He didn't even want me putting in a backsplash in the kitchen because he was afraid I might not know what I was doing. He only allowed me to do this bathroom because we were having problems with the existing walls deteriorating, and as a result, leaking into the downstairs apartment, and he figured he had nothing to lose, being I was doing it with leftover materials, so it didn't cost him anything, save for a new shower valve.

This is a long thread linked here but I printed it, took a long time to read it, and highlighted things I wanted to do in my remodel. I think it's where I read that porcelain tile was good for floors and a couple people recommended Swanstone for the tub/shower surround. I'd add the color with something that can be changed out later more easily. Tile will be the toughest thing to change out. You could have just as much fun with a pattern on the wall in paint, colorful towels, and accessories. If you're dead set on having color in the tile, then I'd do a mostly neutral with a stripe of colored tile or a few accent tiles.

If you're going to install a barrier between the cement board and the framing, then you can tile right on top of the cement board. No need for Kerdi on top of the cement board. If you intend on installing Kerdi on top of the cement board and tiling over the Kerdi, then there's no need for a barrier behind the cement board. One or the other. Best, Mongo

So the interesting thing is there are no new stains. So @Mimi it could be what you said where they scratched the paint. (I hope not). Yesterday I let vinegar and baking soda sit on the walls for about 9 hours. It definitely helped.

I should also point out that in the country I live in we don't have all of the wonderful (would make my life easier) products you guys are talking about.

I would also prefer to use a natural method instead of bleach or something with fumes any idea for something more DIY and natural?

In the picture it looks like mold along the bottom edge, bleach is the only thing that is going to remove that. Do you have a local Home supply or hardware store that might carry a product for removing hard water stains?

Try this on one tile....spray a paper towel with vinegar, put it on one of your tiles, spray again with vinegar and let it sit an hour or so, remove before the vinegar dries out. Rinse and see if there is a difference.
