I often google “how-to” questions for specific dishes. But I’ve seen instructions for what is almost a formula for finding recipes using on-hand ingredients. All I remember was it started with “recipe” and I thought that was followed by a colon.

Tonight’s “paella” turned out pretty good. I found a recipe on myrecipes.com that I loosely followed. I forgot to add the peas but I did manage to use up the last of the shrimp.

Yeah, there used to be fancy Boolean operators, but they've pretty much done away with them. Some still work, some don't.

Nowadays, it's easier. On the right hand side of the listings (not the cover page with the big Google, but where you've done a search already), right under the search lozenge (not a box ;) ), is the word "Settings". Click it and you'll see a context menu with Advanced Search in the middle. Click Advanced Search. That's all you need to remember. Settings/Advanced Search.

You can just fill in the boxes on the Advanced Search screen, but it also tells you on the right hand side, how to use each option, and how to type it in your basic search.

I'm glad the paella was good and you weren't on Chopped, so didn't have to use the marshmallows. :)

Thanks, plllog, both for the explanation about Boolean operators and for the instructions. Because I use an iPad almost exclusively, Advanced Search doesn’t work exactly like that. Nevertheless with the information you gave me, I was able to google for it, find it, and use it.

Speaking of marshmallows, I’ve had Rice Krispie treats on the brain. Tonight I decided to use up some cereal that the grands left behind: Cap’n Crunch All Berries and a small box of Froot Loops. 😜 Sometimes it is better not to follow your cravings.

I'm sorry I didn't realize you were searching on the iPad, but glad you found the Advanced Search. :) You might also be interested, at another time, in the tools and tricks for iPad thing they put out. I can't remember the name. If you don't find it, ask me. :)
