Kitchen sink decision (Stages vs Prolific vs something else )
Comments (34)@Amy Banta I have the Prolific and I love it. I have never felt like the 18 gauge was not enough. I agree with what suzanne_sl says. There are other sinks with accessories, but nothing else really has the lower ledges like Prolific and I get a lot of use out of the lower and middle ledges. I have some extra drain boards and I keep those on the bottom of the sink so it acts as a "grid" and I scratch the sink less. It prevents banging. Grids can be hard to clean, but the drain boards fit right in the dishwasher. I love the middle ledge for hiding drying dishes, and putting things on the top ledge is great for filling things with water and washing things. I use all the accessories in many different ways. This design is so flexible. The only thing I don't love on the Prolific is the colander accessory. I feel like it doesn't drain as well as most colanders. I might try to drill more holes in it someday to see if that helps. Everything else about the sink is great. I've had it about 1.5 years now and it is still my favorite thing in our kitchen. If you think you would enjoy the ledges at different heights like I do, I would not let the gauge be a deterrent....See MoreSink with drainboard (Kohler Stages vs Kallista Multiere)
Comments (7)Perhaps a good question is how people who have the Stages actually use that ledge. I generally keep the heavy walnut cutting board over the ledge, so much of the time I'm not actively using it. However, when I'm cutting a lot of veggies I scoot the cutting board over and place the bowls that come with the sink on the ledge (one at a time), cut the onion, celery, carrot, whatever, and then sweep it into the bowl. The top of the bowl is at a perfect height for getting the veggies to land into the bowl. The square bowl is a help here as the full edge of the bowl is flush with the edge of the cutting board. This also works with meat that needs to be cut up, like beef for stew or cooked chicken for salad. I like that I don't have food bits on the counter top and floor. I especially remember how much I like this set up when I process tomatoes over by the stove. Even using a cutting board with a drip runnel I end up with bits of tomato on the granite and stray splashes on the backsplash hiding to be found another day. The sink as prep is so much nicer, but tomatoes are going in and out of hot water and cold water and that needs to happen next to the stove....See MoreWorkstation sink vs main sink + prep sink? Comments (61)Stacy, I have the Akurum line which had the split top drawer standard. It can be done by mounting a divider to attach the rails to. That is how I do the individual trash pullouts under the sink (see the under sink photo I posted earlier) . I dont necessarily think split drawers are an advantage because you lose about 3 1/2” storage. I like the off-white Bodbyn. It’s not yellow in my kitchen which does have warm lighting @ 3000K and lots of wood which causes it to photograph with a yellowish cast. Look back at my daughter’s kitchen to see how the Bodbyn looks next to bright white subway tile. She has warm lighting too. Also, Ikea has a new door, Akstad that is bright white. Hope you find something you like....See MoreThe Galley vs Havens kitchen sink ... or any Other workstation sinks?
Comments (17)@HU-426144764 are you happy with the quality of the Galley? I’m think of going that direction because of the total cost with accessories. Are the side corners a wide enough radius to clean with a regular sponge or so you need to get the toothbrush out? And is it deep enough front to back because of the dual tier design, or it too short to fit larger items?...See MoreKathy Harrington
