Please help me choose a light fixture for my bathroom
Comments (7)Thank you so much everyone for your comments. I was leaning towards the first or second fixture because they have halogen lighting, and I read that halogen lighting is best for the bathroom. However, I've been hesitant because I'm not crazy about the style. Those are out. Now it's between the third and fourth fixtures. I'm going for a more contemporary look in the bathroom, so I prefer the style of the fourth fixture. Can polished brass be contemporary? The downside is that I would have to get it in polished brass to go with the rest of my bathroom, and I think the brass takes away from the contemporary look. Would chrome look okay? My shower door and tub fixtures are all polished brass, but the sink faucet and cabinet knobs are two toned brass and chrome. The sink and tub are about 8 inches apart. I like the third fixture because it is two-toned, but the look is a bit traditional. Athensmomof3 (love that name), my medicine cabinet is directly above the sink. I've been looking at make-up mirrors. It's too late to get one that's hardwired. I've seen a lighted mirror that plugs in, and you can remove the cord from the mirror when it's not in use. I might get that one....See MoreAdvice for bathroom vanity lighting fixtures for small office?
Comments (3)Thanks for the reply. When I saw no one initially respond, I went ahead and just bought these off bellacor. 1) Kichler Lege Brushed Nickel Three Light fixture (it was on clearance for $109 but is back up to $218) for the narrow alcove. The Canarm Lyndi Brushed Nickel Four-Light Vanity Light for the bathroom (also $109). I decided to go with a wider fixture since the bathroom is bigger. The 3 light fixture just seemed too narrow at 23" wide (compared to 30" for this 4 light one). And this Designers Fountain Brushed Nickel Flush Mount with Milk Acrylic Lens ($68 on clearance) for the overhead light in the bathroom: I figured the brushed nickel/contemporary look would work and made sure the bulbs weren't halogen (the overhead one is a T9 fluorescent bulb)....See MoreHelp! Comments (16)yaya, that makes more sense - I was trying to picture what you were saying and didn't get it :-) Using side lights was a suggestion made on the bath forum and I think I like that idea. Then I could place the lights a little lower and not have them so crowded. If I do this, I'd have enough room for rectangular tile mirrors instead. Do you think those would look better than the ovals? If I use oval mirrors, should I use rectangular sinks? annz - I LOVE the Craftsman style bathroom and put that in my dream home folder. For this house, we've already put so much money into remodeling and have done everything custom in other rooms, but we're planning to move in a few years. I'm trying to stick with my plan of using nice materials but at the same time keeping it basic and low cost (it's hard for me to do!). I also want it done by June and if we start talking custom framing around the mirrors DH will take forever to finish! andrea - if we were staying here longer than a few more years I would have done so much more to change the footprint of this house, including the placement of windows! We just redid all of the stucco and outside trim, so I know changing the window placement isn't an option for us. It is limiting though....See MoreHelp with sizes for bathroom vanity light fixtures and mirrors!
Comments (8)Thank you so much for your help! We actually do need the tower for storage as the bathroom is not very big at all. It currently has a bulky built in linen closet on the left hand side of the vanity and the current vanity is even smaller (60") that my husband and I have shared for 10 years. So while I'd LOVE more counter space, even the extra 9" we are gaining feels like a lot for us. We put the tower on the right because it is next to the wall when you walk in the door which keeps it from being in the middle of the room breaking it up. It helps that the top part of the tower sets back on top about 6" from the facing of the lower cabinets to make it feel less intrusive. I am concerned that a 3-light fixture may make it feel more congested, but I just don't know as it seems there would be room for it.. Is more light better or would a 2-light be better for scale? I do love symmetry, and you have no idea how much it pains me to not have a perfectly symmetrical vanity.. But it really is the best option for the space due to how tight the bathroom is as a whole. The tub is directly in front of the vanity (about 4.5' walking space) which also sits in front of a window providing a lot of natural light in the room....See More- 3 years ago
