Comments (11)Kate, your post didn't list the number of feet. Thansk for the input, everyone. Maybe I will leave it where it is this year to see what it does first. Assuming it is not too hard to move when it is 2 years old. When I googled it I saw a picture in someoneÂs garden where they had harnessed it into being tall and thin with double plant rings. ThatÂs something that could work too in that place in my garden. ItÂs more the spread IÂm concerned about, as my garden is an island bed and there is no more horizontal space. I planted it as a backdrop for some wine-colored daylilies, but whether it will bloom at the same time I have no clue....See MoreI dislike how Trader Joe's prices their produce!
Comments (16)I love Trader Joe's. I don't know where you guys shop but their prices are much cheaper than other stores for what I buy. 5 pounds of flour is $2.99 at TJ's and my local store is $4+. I can get a pound of nuts for $6 and it would easily be twice that much at Albertsons. Almond milk is about $3 and it's more at the regular stores. I like some of the produce. I've had really good luck with the packaged organic romaine lettuce. Their avocados are really good if you let them ripen at home for a few days. The packaged spinach is nice, and I like the bananas. The only produce I've ever had problems with were the onions but I agree you can get fresher produce elsewhere but you're going to pay more, at least where I live. The frozen fire-roasted corn is amazing in chili or salsa. I'm a fan of the pumpkin ice cream in the fall, and I love the chocolate and strawberry coconut milk ice cream in the summer. I inhale their frozen veggie dumplings. One package is less than $4 and it's two meals for me. Their tomato basil marinara sauce is the BEST jarred sauce I have ever tasted and it's only $1.79. Their prepared salads are great. I had an amazing one for lunch earlier this week with quinoa, chickpeas, spinach, carrots, cranberries, edamame, pumpkin seeds and a carrot-ginger-miso dressing for $3. TJ's is perfect for me as a single, health-conscious person. They have a lot of vegetarian basics at good prices. They have healthy packaged food for convenience because it's often much cheaper to eat a nutritious prepackaged salad than to cook for one. And the reason TJ's has a cult following is because they offer interesting things at low prices and high quality. They don't have a whole lot of selection but what they do have is almost always good. They cater to a lot of alternative diets, like vegan, or gluten free. They have a ton of organic produce and their products don't have all the chemicals and preservatives found in grocery store snacks. And their customer service is some of the best I've ever seen. You can take back anything, half eaten even, and get a refund no questions asked....See MoreHow do you make your coffee or tea, if you drink them at all?
Comments (29)Seems like everybody has their own personal style when it comes to coffee and tea - and lots of other stuff too. I was just thinking that social scientists might have some pretty good material in these types of threads😃 I do not care for burnt coffee, a.k.a. dark roast. I buy organic Honduran medium roast whole beans from Aldi, store them in a glass jar in my freezer and grind enough for a small pot - 2 large cups - every morning, using an old Melitta single cup cone to make pour through and I keep it hot in a Pyrex carafe on a little warming plate. I put a splash of heavy cream in the cup before adding the hot coffee. When I'm out of cream, I use half & half. I cannot have caffeine after noon or I won't sleep that night, so coffee for me is a morning thing only. My grinder is an electric one by Braun, and I wipe it out every day with a soapy sponge, and also wash the cone and carafe every day. I haven't had a coffee machine in over 30 years. There's no room for one in my tiny kitchen anyway. I like various types of tea and have both bags of green tea and loose black tea. My preference in tea is for flavored ones like jasmine, Earl Grey, and some of the citrus/fruity green teas too. Not that crazy about plain green tea. I also have a seasonal decaf green tea from Trader Joe's (Candy Cane) for drinking in the afternoons - usually cold, and I also have a cup of Sleepytime Extra every night before bed. I learned that if you want nice clear cold tea, pour cold water over the bags and steep in the fridge for several hours or overnight. I would estimate 99.9% of my coffee and tea drinking is at home. I rarely, if ever, buy drinks when I'm out and about. I think my fresh brews taste better than anything I've ever bought prepared. Oh, and I use distilled water, not tap....See Moredchall8 .
