Comments (32)Here's some information about sliding windows. In a storm the exposed track fills with water and if it doesn't drain fast enough water enters the house. I've seen it happen in a test chamber. The fact that they are cheap is not enough of a reason to put them in a house. And little burgers are known to cause indigestion. Comments (10)I live in farm country and see no true farmhouses with “low brick skirting”. That skirting was traditionally done on one story ranch houses. Here a farmhouse is either two story all brick ( all sides, not just on the front) or all siding, usually white, never with black windows. As far as brick. As far as brick color for your fireplace, local brick will be best, made from local clay, the color won’t jar the eye, but relate to the earth around you. Comments (37)Traditional ? you mean true divided windows where each piece of glass was installed between wood muntins? I can't imagine you could even buy a window like that...maybe at a salvage shop. My experience is with Anderson 400 which offers is the look of true divided windows, are energy efficient, and avoids the snap in/snap out vinyl grids, that break and leave holes in the window frame. K H, tell your husband to take a look...he needs an introduction to muntins in modern age. He won't freeze with these. My neighbor mowed his lawn last evening while we were having guests for dinner.
