Using white, farmhouse style windows in non-farmhouse?

Hello,
We are building a new, two story house and are debating window grille style. Our neighborhood norm is 2x2 on top of the double hung with a clear bottom half (so a plus + sign only on the top half of the window). I'd like to skew a little more modern and less "new build" and was debating doing a single grille down the middle of both the top and bottom panes (so 1 big plus + sign overall), like in the modern farmhouses. Does anyone have pictures or thoughts on this on a more traditional style house? We are doing white windows and are planning for a dark grey-blue horizontal hardiplank with hardiplank shingles on the 2nd floor. It looks good in my mind, but most of the farmhouse style windows are black and I worry people don't do this for a reason.
