Modern farmhouse brick color

We are in the early stages of our new construction and I’m stumped on brick choices. Our exterior will be modern farmhouse style, white siding, black windows, and a low brick skirting. We are planning natural-ish white oak hardwoods inside where we will also have a large floor to vaulted ceiling fireplace. Hoping for a cozy, but light/airy feel inside. What brick color would you recommend that would work well both inside and outside our new home??

We just built a farmhouse with white board and batten and we did a reddish brown brick skirt and retaining walls. I really like it. My house is a true farmhouse (meaning it's located on a farm) so there's lots of dirt and grime associated with it.

I live in farm country and see no true farmhouses with “low brick skirting”. That skirting was traditionally done on one story ranch houses. Here a farmhouse is either two story all brick ( all sides, not just on the front) or all siding, usually white, never with black windows. As far as brick. As far as brick color for your fireplace, local brick will be best, made from local clay, the color won’t jar the eye, but relate to the earth around you. I hope you will research true farmhouse style so your new home ( how exciting!) will be a classic.

I'm not normally a fan of braided rugs, and I'm not normally a fan of white walls, but I saw this house featured in houzz.com today and I really like the look of the wood with the white walls, and I think a braided rug can work with this look too....sort of shaker style...minimalist which can lean toward a more up to date look. Just redefine your terms and adjust your "farmhouse" design inspirations to include wood tones. If you are only watching Joanna Gaines that's all youre going to see- and want. However, there are plenty of other takes on "contemporary farmhouse" out there. I honestly am not getting why browns/beiges/greiges are ok for painted surfaces, but not the same color in a wood stain. Yellow-golds, grays and whites are classic .... would fit quite nicely with your ca. 1980s gold toned wood. Re above statements that white trim will never go out of style.... well ya, some truth to that but the drab colorless interiors, the monotone white on white will. Mark my words, people in the not too distant future will be cursing the latex paint that soaked into the pores of their brick and caused it to spall, wondering "what were they thinking." Lets not forget that there was a time when people thought that a popcorn ceiling and metallic blobs of paint sponged onto every conceivable surface was a good idea!

I do like the cerused look myself and its really what I initially had in mind as my stain. Its not a finish everyone offers, is likely to be an upcharge if it is offered, and is going to look best on a rift or quartersawn white oak which isn't cheap wood to start with. I'm happy with how mine turned out and everyone who sees it seems to like it. It's driftwood on maple with an black glaze. Without the black glaze, the pink of the wood showed through and was too much. It's definitely grey, but it has an underlying brown and slightly pink tone so its warm and not GREY. I think it fairly different/unique/unexpected. Would probably have been a bit much for the entire kitchen though, I'd be careful of using grey flooring though, it's such a huge surface can be overwhelming.

I agree typically a farmhouse does not have brick on it, Houzz did a parade of homes feature with a Modern Farmhouse with just that

I would go with something like this based on what you have selected so far.

Gable accents, posts and mantel should be warm colors and make nice accents.

If you do a brick skirt, do not use a lighter (white) brick. The mud splashes up and stains everything and there is a huge amount of waste due to mud on the jobsite before it even gets laid. Also, when looking, ask if the brick can be pressure washed, because a lot of the new textures cannot.
