Goodness you all! I think the last two comments summarize the groupÂs split opinion on this LR DR space. Half of you think the space is headed in the right direction, but that the furniture needs rearranging and editing to give it more coherence. You would place the two dominant red print chairs closer together, add red to the couch, and cull some of the mismatched stuff (the rocker, black chair, tapestry. . .) The other half of you are less bothered by the mismatching and think the room just needs something to tie it all together, such as a DR rug, serving table in the DR, or window treatments. I am somewhere in between the two groups. To my mind, because the room has so few colors, mostly just yellow, goldish tan, crème, red and black, the mismatching generally is o.k.(and is what we can afford!) I do think, however, that some changes are needed to bring more coherence. This is what I am thinking now. (1) Leave the chairs apart, like spurned lovers. Reuniting them just feels like too much red pattern in a not-large room. (2) Get the black wood chair out of the LR (maybe putting it back by the fireplace instead of the yellow DR chair.) (3) Stain or replace the octagonal table in the LR to make it blend in better. (4) Add a small black serving cart (on wheels) for the DR under the light switches to better demarcate this DR and for functionality. (5) Change the lampshades in the DR chandy to mimic those in the LR. (6) Reconsider, maybe, my general antidrapery bias. In terms of cooper and sheshareeÂs questions. . . .the ottoman is a pretty old one from LEE. I got it used. I am very happy with its style, comfortable, and its maneuverability. The chair is 16 years old, made by Century and was called it Gatsby style. I donÂt see it on their website now. The chair has a tight seat and back and pretty exposed legs. Because its cushions are tight, it takes a slipcover well. Any more comments/suggestions?

Kiki, definitely rent the harp before you buy! You can buy a harp used, too. I did-- I got a gorgeous special order harp, and years later, when I resold, I lost very little (if any) money. The Daphne is a great one to start with because you still get pedal harp tension and all of the mechanics (not the same range, though) but it is very portable compared to concert grands. This was a huge issue for me because I am pretty small. Also easier to fit into a vehicle. I think the green would look lovely. What length are you thinking? LL, I didn't see your question until now, sorry. I wasn't going to draw up a plan that recesses the fridge into the pantry closet because it sounds like that set-up limits the size of fridge Flying can get - 30" most likely, possibly 33" - unless she makes modifications to the bathroom, swapping out the tub for a shower as suggested by lascatx above. Personally, I'd be reluctant to limit fridge size. My SIL had a heckuva time finding a new fridge to fit their existing cabinet - height and width were what was common when they built, not what is common now. We had to modify our cabinet by jacking it up 2" with plywood inserts at the base - ugly but short-term - to fit our new, taller fridge. Thank goodness we weren't hindered by soffits like my SIL. That said, there does seem to be more choices for smaller fridges that there were even a couple years ago so perhaps this isn't a big deal after all. But it's still not the norm, which means fridges will often cost more. But if that's not a concern for Flying, then yes, changes can be made to the plan I posted Tue, Aug 23, 11 at 20:39 so that the sink can be placed on the entry wall. The door would need to stay put or shift over only 6" so that there's room to have the DW next to the sink. It would be 12" of wall, 40" door, DW, 33" or 36" sink cab (smaller sink cab leaves a few more inches between counter run and doorway), spacer cabinet, corner, then 38" to range. This would leave a long stretch of peninsula counter between DR and kitchen. The 2nd oven would need to go under the counter here. The bathroom wall set-up would need to change a bit, too. because the entry shifts over only 6", not 12". Staggering the cabinet depth would work: 12" deep cabs close to the doorway, 18" deep cabs next to the fridge. If Flying has the funds and the desire to do the extra remodeling required to recess a 36" fridge in the pantry closet, the above still works, too. But if the only reason for all this extra work is to get a view to the backyard, it might not be necessary. Flying's back door has a window in its top half. If that's not enough, she can add a window along that back wall ala the photo I posted Fri, Aug 12, 11 at 14:02. It would mean giving up a little bit of upper cabinet room (about 12" I think).

A bit under the weather, but trying to catch up. What is still in the running? Michele has said no or only a simple liner as a modern element, right? That means no Imola, correct? I liked some of their glassy-looking liners like Broccato *B, Nuance 1T. I guess the milk glass and metallic glasses are out, too. I like the Wyndam, but it does skew traditional, which goes with the hardware, although is a bit in conflict with the granite. The crushed glass decos (Sonoma at Tues, 10/14@1:34, Encore Precocious, etc.) can go more modern, but I believe they've been ruled out? Plain diagonals work, but aren't much of a statement and I don't see them as looking like the were meant to be rather than a default. As for colors, I'm to the point where I would need to see them IRL before commenting further. I am pretty sure I understand the colors of your granite, but not those of the tiles.
