Out of time...and options...one final idea :)
Comments (36)Plllog- I agree, I miss the work table too...but you got me thinking...what if I designed the island to look more like the work table. It wouldn't be exact, but it could be a wood base with marble top and build it so that it looks like a separate piece, rather than the same cabinetry as the perimeter. My one hesitation has been to put marble on the island, because of the upkeep, but I'll get some samples, first. It would be wonderful for baking! I am so thrilled about the mudroom! We had it in the old plan, but for some reason, I didn't think it would fit...I like the way it's worked out. You know, I'm so glad you mention the quirkiness...I was really trying to bring some in, just to go with the rest of the house. The living room fireplace has 5' on one side and 3' on the other, with a window on the larger side. It's never going to be a formal, balanced living room, but kind of quirky...so that's what I've tried to do in the remodel. I'm hoping the three french doors, rather than two or two with sidelights, kind of hints at that, too. LOL! I think you're right about the canning! I've never canned, but I've seen that on TV comedies. I was actually thinking of using that space to store empty cans and the equipment...but you bring up a good point...where to store the cans, once their full! Maybe I need a root cellar...or at least a cooler storage room in the basement :)...See MoreSomething good has come during Covid time...
Comments (21)To those who asked....on-line teaching Kindergartens was/will be a huge challenge for her. Not only getting them logged on...even though she assigned them their first name as password...but the students were not the biggest challenge. It was parents who are unwilling to cooperate because they thought they didn’t need to participate or didn’t have time to “mess with doing it”....or an “it’s not my job, that is what you are getting paid to do” attitude...sadly, it will be those students who will be left behind😢. The school provided each student with a laptop and internet services are provided free to every family with school children. She spent many 14-16 hour days preparing and “teaching” from a room at her home that she turned into a make-shift classroom. She puts her whole self into making education as productive and fun for her students as she possibly can...as does she in her bike riding. She challenges herself to ride those gravel roads and climb those steep hills...not to take the easy paths of level paved roads. She said she has learned not to look at the top of the hill, but to concentrate on the “next tree or next mailbox”...baby steps and not giving up! She won’t give up on a student, but keeps challenging them to try their best and not quit. I honestly don’t know how it is going to work now that part will be coming in to the classroom twice a week for each half of students and on-line will be doing Wednesdays. I know she will be praying for guidance and strength and will do the very best she can....See MoreBread - and health care in the time of COVID
Comments (3)Wow! Beautiful bread! Dealing with aging parents can be so frustrating. You are a good person to try to help her and her partner. I just pray that when I get old and need help from my daughter, an only child, I remember to be gracious. ETA: whining is allowed here. I certainly do enough of it! 😉...See MoreOut of time - kitchen reno help!!!
Comments (9)push the seating section over to come off window wall and make a U kitchen. Table is so close...its always a gamble whether seats get used that much when table and chairs are so close.. The U kitchen can have dedicated stools but if they dont get used all that much they can be pushed under overhang. I'd clear the hall wall on kitchen side and place art/ paint it a nice color/ consider various options for widening opening or both of them.....and how this opens the space instead of the rectangular section pushed between your passages. I'd be ready with this nice U kitchen ..stools included with overhang and just work best options for the openings on hall then. Simplifying issues makes going forward easier....See More- 6 years ago
