I love everything about it right now, except for the color of the shutters. I would much prefer them to be painted to match the roof. I dont think the house will look nearly as good painted white.

If you don't already own this home, find one with a roof you like. Not a pro but I know enough to realize any changes to get a farmhouse look will be expensive. Just brainstorming here: Add a "point" atop each (now flat roof) of each (left and right) wing of the house to create a pair of forward facing gables -- one on each side of the single story middle section. Alter the single story middle section to add a huge attic with a point that meets the new points of the two wings of the house. With the center ridge line of the left wing and the right wing and the center section of the house the same height, you will have created an "H" shaped center ridge line. Recreate your front entry so it is in the middle of that middle section (over which you just added a huge attic). Extend the roof of that middle section as a shed roof over a porch at least 6' deep from a point on the inside/right side of the left wing of the "H" shaped house to a point on the inside/left side of the right wing of the "H" shaped house. Extend the overhang of that front porch so it continues to the front and left in front of each side wing of the house, removing/adjusting the too low parts of the overhangs on the corners of the two wings. You could leave the flat roof over the single story part of the structure on the far left at the back of the house or create another gable. Perhaps you could get a Houzz pro to do a mock up pic of those changes?

Oh, your floor is so beautiful! And, your dogs a re so cute. How do you clean the grout? Is it time-intensive? What type of maintenance do you have to do for your floor? Thank you for the suggestion about Arto. Their tiles look a lot like the reclaimed French tiles I've found. I'll have to dig through their site for prices.

Like I said it is very difficult to compare elevations when you don't have a front facing photo. Here is what I notice between the two photos. Your home is a work in progress so you don't have all the trim, the portico isn't built up yet (in the green box). So the front of your house isn't looking correct yet. The other BIG thing I noticed is your windows either aren't cut out all the way yet or they are not the correct size. Even with the missing Frieze board that I highlighted in a red box It appears that the windows are too short. Even wide window trim would not make up the difference. You have a very tall house. So you are not going to see the roof unless you are far away. The only other suggestion I have is that you can gauge your chimney height and roof ridge to make sure the pitch is proper if you don't want to measure the inside attic pitch yourself. But I can't even tell from your photo because as you go up the elevation doesn't distort but the photo does. See my yellow lines do not line up.... Hope this is helpful and makes sense!
