why do they have to rename things?
Comments (20)I thought Pluto was still called Pluto, being the same as it was before, with the change being that now its geneological paperwork indicates a non-planetary status. Wouldn't it be useful to limit re-naming to one change a century? Azzalea, I live in a part of a County that was annexed by a city (oh dear, was it 40 years ago??!!). All the house numbers were changed to confirm to the City's numerology along with some street renaming and changing the post office's city designation. A few years later, the County won a court-battle and retrieved the annexed area, and instead of reverting the house numbers/street names/city to their original designation/s, the county planner let them stay re-named. Approximately 200,000 residents gave a sigh of relief at NOT having to again send in change of address forms to all their magazines, etc. However, 40 years later, those of us who live in one of the 15 zip codes affected are still having to explain that in spite of our address no, we do not live in the City and yes, we are tax-paying County residents....See MoreWhat Do You Have Too Much Of, & Why Do You Have It?
Comments (89)So many people with issues with parents...sad. I was loved, I had toys and gifts, dresses, dolls, books, sport stuff, games,I lacked for nothing . But as I got older, I think I tried to "recapture" my childhood. As an adult, I loved antique shows, flea markets, garage sales. Any time I saw something we had in our house growing up, I had to buy it. I even bought too many rose bushes and planted them in my garden, trying to re-create my Grandma's rose garden. I now have a linen closet stacked with doilies and tablecloths I'll never use, sets of fancy glasses too fragile to use, things like that. Oh, and on the funny side, my daughter cleaned out my bathroom just yesterday. She found eleven bottles of Listerine. I don't know, I hate the stuff, it burns... I remember buying one bottle because it did everything, whitens teeth, freshens breath, makes gums healthy, strengthens the enamel. I'm just always looking for something to make me happy....See MoreI'm going to entitle my memoirs "Cats: Why We Can't Have Nice Things"
Comments (150)How I Loooooove these cat stories!! I couldn't help getting a few tears in my eyes but so many more laughs!!! At 73, I can't say I ever remember a time I didn't have at least one weaving in and out of my legs, tail up, meowing either for attention or food. A few even tried to use me as a scratching post !lol My bff in IL takes in rescues, and at the moment has 21 or 22. The 100 yo historic home she bought 9 years ago came with 2 separate garages, one housing the majority of the kitties, the other is used for storage, but she always keeps the big door open a foot at the bottom, and knows *other* critters take part in the 'vittles' also. Sthe has either 4 or 5 in the house, one being a mama cat w/7 kittens, the very start of her rescue 'mission'. She gave away 2 of those kittens(after neutering!),and never stopped regretting it. They have all found a forever home with her. Her vet/food costs are insane, and when I visited in the summer we found worms in one of the litter pans, and in a two day period, took every cat into the vet to be dewormed. That was $400. It's neverending work! Whenever I call she's scooping, feeding, or rocking one of them in the old rocking chair that was moved out to the garage. She also donates to almost every animal organization known to man, even if it's only $5. She's a one-woman rescue shelter, and I wish I were closer to help. We always say we like animals more than people because animals can't help their situatuon, but people usually can....See MoreOT. Why do we always want what we can't have?
Comments (7)Human Nature. The grass is always greener on the other side...of whatever it is. When I worked at the beach, what I used to call the "perma fog", where the most successful lawns were slime mold, people wanted cacti and desert scapes. A few miles inland and higher elevation, where the cacti were naturally suited, they wanted tree ferns, mosses, hydrangeas, etc. Add the desire to see something different from what surrounds you. Why should you have planted what grew all around you? All you had to do was look in the neighbors' gardens and you had what you no longer see everywhere....See Morehl_60
