If you're squeamish-don't look
Comments (16)I've got black racers, garder, glass and a mess of ring neck snakes around here all the time. I have one black racer that is almost like a pet. Half of the time when I'm working in the garden he is right there with me. I've had him climb up my arm, over my shoulder and into a bush while I was sitting on the ground cleaning up around the bottom of a bush. He knows I'm not going to hurt him and I know he's not going to hurt me. But then, I've been playing with snakes, turtles, frogs and stuff my entire life. So for me it's just part of my life that I enjoy and restect....See Morewhat do you do when you don't trust your builder?
Comments (19)Our contract is fixed price with allowances. Our builders approach is that changes in things like tile or lighting fixtures that don't change the work involved for him, are no issue- we are paying the difference in the cost of material. Obviously, if we make a change that results in more labor, this would be considered a change order to be negotiated as everything else was sorted. As an example, if we change from a simple, tiled backsplash in the kitchen to one that has much more elaborate patterns and an increased time to install, then I'd expect the builder to ask for a change order to cover this. To the OP, sounds like a discussion with the builder would make sense- for some areas, it would seem that a process could be worked out to at least help you understand the relative differences in the choices you're looking at? This could be done in a way to preserve the approach this builder seems to have with his suppliers but give you some information to help with your decisions? Maybe it's time to ask the builder to meet you at the tile store to make some progress?...See MoreWarning! Don't look if you don't like corbels!!
Comments (15)Michoumonster, the corbels are 41 1/4" tall, about 7 1/2" deep and 7" wide. I'm not losing any cabinet space because they are supporting a raised granite bar. They're taking up leg/seating space. Well worth it to me. I wanted room to seat three people at the bar and should be able to fit four. Very excited to see things coming together. Especially happy at the moment because I just found a backsplash tile that is less than a 1/3 the price of the tile I was planning on using. Plus it is IN STOCK instead of a three week lead time. Oh happy day! About 8 years ago I experienced a nightmare of a kitchen remodel. An absolute nightmare. I must have paid my dues because my contractor now has been a dream come true. Love everything about him. Great guy, great ideas, patient, totally listens to me and pleasant to have around. We're on schedule, on budget (the budget we agreed to after I busted my original budget lol) and my dog likes him. What more can I ask for. :)...See MoreBirchcraft cabinet re-do - don't look if you're a purist! ;-)
Comments (15)Oh it's not that I don't like the bar pulls it's that I didn't know I'd be finding a second cabinet with the original knobs or I might have tried to locate another set of them. Now it's a case of can't go back even if I did find another set because the new holes for the bar pulls would show if I filled them. The original filled holes are hidden by the bar. This was such serendipity finding 2 and really - can you ever have too many cabinets? ;-) Great storage space inside...See Moreroxanna7
