I got long rectangular plastic window boxes from Home Depot. My balcony has brick walls up to about 3 feet, with a metal rail running along the top, so I can rest the window boxes on the inside ledge and attach them to the rail. I drilled holes through the back of each planter in 3 or 4 spots and looped 14 inch nylon "cable ties" through each hole and around the metal rails to secure them. (I found these in Home Depot's electric dept - they have something like a zipper, you loop it through and pull tight and that's it, they don't budge. They are rated for 75 pounds each so I feel safe that no gale-force wind - which I get several times each year - will blast them over the edge...though in Hurricanes Irene AND Sandy, I brought every single thing on my balcony inside. Luckily, the ties cut off easily and and the planters go back up quick and easy with new ties.

I'm embarassed to post this it looks so awful. The front porches look a lot better, at least they are all straight tho missing some rails and skirts. We are also removing the narrow aluminum corner pieces and replacing them with appropriately wide wood or wood composite boards which we will paint dark brown. (Dark brown, light brown which you see onthe two windows to the left of the porch, and dark green are our trim and accent colors. Not sure what to paint the doors yet.) Thing to the right of the back door is a water heater which will be going down to the cellar. The main steps are on the leftt side, 2nd steps currently on right. Plan is to move 2nd steps to right hand side of the back, to go down into the yard. My dh removed the cheap skirts so the crooked support posts are exposed. I don't know where the yellow on the eaves came from. Its there in real life, guess its the sun!

Hold the phone!!!!! Brad/finish nailers can be found for MUCH less than $350!!!!! Porter Cable regularly runs specials on a kit---18 gauge brad nailer, 16 gauge finish nailer, small portable compressor with hose/fittings/thread tape for less than $350. That is an ideal combo for home use. I have all three---bought separately years ago---That I use in my business. six years and no problems. Miter saws are also priced with a wide difference. My son bought a Delta 10" compound miter saw to do trim in his house and paid $99. we used ot for tongue and groove ceiling planks, 3&1/2" crown molding, and standard base molding. I have a six year old DeWalt 12" saw I paid $300 and now sells regularly for $290. There are dual compound models---they tilt/swing in both directions starting around $400 and sliding compound starting at $400 for 10" models and $600 for 12" models.

I see what appears to be a vertical overflow in the container bottom, to set max water level. You can water with the vertical pipe suggestion, or water from bottom by submersion in water.( A water level at little higher than the height of overflow port top to just fill the reservoir). Any excess should drain from overflow port when removed, from filling the reservoir. Try with the empty pot to test. It appears as wicking media should be placed in the hollow portions of the 3 screen support feet only, leaving the reservoir area under screen for water only. This will draw water thru the capillary connection from support feet material into the growing medium. Sample Viva Pot Photo
