Can you prune Sweet Peas?
Comments (2)Well, I have tried growing sweet peas in containers and trained it to grow up a bamboo pyramid, but these aren't called topiaries. Living topiaries are normally plants that have a long life, and sweet peas, being annuals are most certainly not. They do well for a short time in containers but as summers come, their pots tend to dry out more often, the plants come to seed too fast and they start getting aphid infested and tired looking by mid summer. Sweet peas are sensitive to heat and need to remain cool. Once the blooms set in, you'd need to deadhead them as often as you can. And try as you might, the leaves and stem start turning yellow as teh days get hotter. Believe me, even if you tried pruning them as often as you can, they won't look neat and tidy. Howeve,r having said all that, by all means, though, try the plant as a container plant, but just keep in mind this plant is an annual and won't last as long....See MoreIsland Hood: Miele, Viking or ?
Comments (9)I had a similar decision to make, as our range sits on the end of peninsula which faces the dining area. We previously had a downdraft, so I struggled with the thought of this big thing hanging from the ceiling becoming an obvious focal point. After building a plywood mock-up based on my basic style and design preferences, I narrowed it down to Modern-Aire and Prizer. Ended up with the Prizer, even though it was a bit more expensive, the fit and finish sold me. It really is beautiful. Oh, and Prizer had offered to add a pot rail at no charge, but I didn't want things hanging in my face above the work area....See MoreNeed to order hood NOW! Opinions, please.
Comments (28)Pepper, I love Prettykitchen's whole house. I could move right it! jejvtr: I think you're DR set is much higher quality than mine, but the style sure is similar. An old boyfriend gave it to me over 20 yrs ago (don't know where he got it) and I refuse to get rid of it. Not for sentimental reasons, but I love the way it looks and functions (ie. well patina'd even after it was refinished...hahahahaha). I worked with Liz at Kennebec too. I took the very long drive to Maine in November. I decided on Kennebec when I changed from painted white to QS white oak. No one does it like they do. Their showroom and shop are first class; I liked everyone there. The hood as pictured is non directional stainless which is more like a pewter color and very matte. There are no other finishes in the kitchen like it. The sink and faucet are stainless, the gagg ovens are aluminum (but on the other side of the kitchen) and the lights are tarnished brass. I'm hoping that the polished stainless and brass trim on the hood will tie it together. I'll know better when I get a swatch....See Morepot rails on range hoods: head banger alert?
Comments (8)We have a rail on our Wolf hood and I am 6"2" and DW is 5'10" and we have never hit our head on the rail. It depends on how deep your hood is, (ours is 24") and how high off the floor(our is 30" from the 66" from the floor.) We love the look and I use it when cooking meals to hang towels on instead of the oven....See MoreVGtar
