I have same issue with my living room - it has to have a pathway to sunroom and deck. I put sofa, two chairs, and coffee table on left. Then wide space and console on right. My console has tv but yours could be just a console table with lamp and art. If you put a rug under just sofa and chairs and left floor bear in front of console, it would visually re-enforce concept of seating area on left, pathway on right.

RL thank you so much for your wonderful ideas and taking time to photoshop some ideas. I never thought of 3 panel print and that gave me a thought. I enjoy quilting for a hobby and I must have some fabric to “frame out” like your pix. Hmmm. the white box is a cover to gain access to water pipes behind wall. So as long as I can move the items, we are good to go.

Well, I'll be the odd-person and say that if I were you, I'd get rid of the shelf-thing. I'd try to make a memorabilia wall maybe, or get that stuff either on the wall decoratively, or in the closet, mounted attractively or organized. The blue is moody, and "cool" as in, a great color for a teen (if he likes it). Some bright art on the wall, or art with a lot of white in the background, and a lighter rug, will add some brightness to the room. I don't mind the sofa at all in there. He sleeps (and I like the queen), he studies (at an attractive and functional desk), and if anyone comes in (group projects, sleepovers), the couch is really nice. Plus he can drop his backpack there. I like it. It's the shelf unit that's not a "functional" object, imo.

Thank you all so so much for all of the helpful advice! I think I have an idea of what colors and layout I’m going to go with. After going back and forth with my husband and moving furniture around for days, I think we’ve decided to keep the original layout, but we tweeked it a bit. I’ve ordered 132 inch White draped with black rod for windows. A black and white floor lamp, and a large black and white canvas for the large wall. I know it may seem colorless, but I figure I can always change out pillows . I still think I can add some subtle natural wood elements here and there. Everything should be here in the next few weeks so I’ll post what I have at that point. I may need a few more ideas! Also, look out for a post soon on exterior paint color ideas.
