Is my dog aggressive or anti-social?
Comments (11)Yeah, there IS a better name... they're called "training collars"! and they're invaluable! Put it on correctly: with the dog in front of you the "noose" formed by threading the links through the rings should for a "P". And you use them with a "jerk/release", never a steady tension! I have the economy-size "jerk dog". He grows the "total Mohawk" and barks like a fool when we meet another dog. After the "big, macho" posture it's the play bow... but at 100 lbs. most people are freaked right out. (imagine that!?) He's a shelter dog and we've done obedience classes (they're GREAT, GO!) but we have no dogs in our neighborhood and opportunities to "socialize" are non-exisitant. When we happen upon another dog I put mine in sit or down/stay. When the other ownr/dog is within earshot I wave and tell them to ignore the "tantrum" and tell them I have control of my dog. If Rex explodes I correct him and return him to the postion he was in before the tantrum. He's getting better, but it's still not easy. I've bet the farm on "consistency"... (when am I gonna see a pay off?) Hang in there!...See MoreA major 2014 project nearly complete~before during and after pics
Comments (20)Melsouth, the floor wasn't difficult, it was just tedious, and the smell was pretty bad. If you notice in the pic, DH had a fan ventilating to the outside. It took a few days to cure. It chipped in a few spots when heavy objects were dropped, but DH says he can patch it up easily. We opted not to tile or put any sort of flooring down for two reasons. One was to save money as we have several other huge projects (new main bath) we would rather spend money on. Second is we live in a flood prone town. We have been here 7 years and did not flood with storms Irene or Sandy, however we didn't want to take a chance. Once our drain the the sewer backed up and we were able to easily clean up. The floor is pitched towards the furnace area where are sump pump is. We opted for a black ceiling after I started taking note of how many people simply paint their ceilings black. DH found the black ceiling tiles at HD and thought that would be easier. Since he was installing it, I wanted to do what was easiest for him. I'm very pleased with how it turned out. He also put a full bath in down there. Our main 2nd floor bathroom had a major leak and needs to be completely redone. Since we are mostly DIYers, it will likely take time and now we have a 2nd full bath in the house. It's not quite complete yet....See MoreWhat am I missing? A Social distancing question
Comments (54)The 15-day plan refers to this from the CDC. It seemingly relies on collective cooperation, which is not occurring. My state first shut down colleges and universities (which made sense because kids were going to/coming back from spring break). Next, they shut down k-12 schools, which initially made no sense when the news the next day showed revelers out at bars and restaurants at pre-St. Pat celebrations. Personally, I didn't understand why we were closing schools but allowing families to hang out in McDonald's playlands and go to libraries, etc. Our governor announced a statewide closing of bars and restaurants the Sunday before St. Pat's, and then less than a week later, our current stay-at-home orders. It's too early to tell based on numbers here, but the goal is to lessen the spread, especially since we are now learning about more infections among first-responders. If the spread slows, it's because of the responsible actions of many. But any continued spread--especially after about 2 weeks from now--will likely be the result of those who have not been following the recommendations in place. I battled this with my kids last weekend, who wanted to go out and visit old friends who are now in town. I told each of them outright: you are not an essential worker, and you don't need to go out for essential supplies... Just Stay Home. There are many people who are making sacrifices for the greater good. You are not an exception to the rules....See MoreSocial distancing in Denver
Comments (14)I live in SW Denver. Ten days or so ago our local FB page (with about 30,000 members!) started encouraging daily 8pm outside cheering and support for healthcare workers. It has morphed into howling and fireworks. It's quite loud and very funny. We back up to a large open space and golf course so we hear it from all over. It only lasts 10 minutes or so. We hear real coyotes howling pretty regularly so it took me a few nights to figure out what was going on. We also have a guy that walks along the open space trails that run between the neighborhoods and plays the bagpipes in the evening. He does it on the other side of town so we, unfortunately, can't hear him....See Morerobo (z6a)
