I've never seen a contract so specific as to stipulate whether it was the door trim or countertop that would be notched, so frankly, I don't think you have legitimate grounds to ask for a redo. Your countertop installers took a lot of time and trouble to notch your quartz around your door trim. If they did a good job, then there's nothing wrong with what they did, and you can bet that the person who did the work is feeling pretty proud of himself for having done it well. Being married to the kind of guy who does work like this, I can tell you he'd be plenty hurt and angry if you were to ask for a redo, done the easy (in his book, wrong) way. Let it go -- And try to appreciate that your installers put forth this much effort to do a superior job.

Florida Joshua installed our soapstone in May. We have a seam in our sink . . . . that you can't find. People have to search to find the 3 seams in our stone, because they are hard to see/feel. He used a black epoxy, it looks like your fabricator used white? And the bit about soapstone being porous and the water seeping in? Puhlease. False. Here's my sink. The seam is in the lower left hand side of the sink, about 3 inches in. Good luck trying to find it. This is freshly oiled. This is 3 months after install. We aren't oilers. As you can see, not having the stone oiled doesn't affect seeing the seam.

Cosetino/Silestone's (The main company is in Mexico) customer Service manager Mr. Alejandro has not responded to repeated queries. I thought about having him served with a subpoena to get him into court but I am not sure how these things work - like, do I have to pay him transportation costs and expenses to appear in court? Regarding your question about Lowes - I try to do business with them instead of Home Depot and the only thing I know about them relative to my counter top issue is that they also use this same counter top fabricator. Also- Thanks for the Zodiac reference. In addition to the Zodiac specification that you referenced, I have also found specifications from Silestone, Wilsonart, CeasarStone, Viatera, and Cambria that support my contention that there is an industry standard tolerance. I am expecting the defendant to claim that there is no applicable specification for quartz counter tops just as he did at the first trial. I also filed a complaint with the MHIC and I also filed an appeal in small claims court - I am waiting for those hearings to be scheduled. I have low expectations of success but I will exercise all the available options. Thanks for the comments.

Oiled stone? That makes no sense. Soapstone is generally the only stone to ever be oiled. A good quality fix of a fissure or a crack is undetectable. It will be stronger than the surrounding stone. Quarries repair stones all the time and send them along to slab yards and no one is the wiser. A well repaired crack is acceptable, and even to be expected in some stones. Some stones are just prone to cracking. Thats not a well repaired crack. They should strive to do better. But, because you stopped payment, they might not. You set yourself up as an adversary first thing, rather than a reasonable customer who just wants things corrected. Stopping payment was very uncool. If you’ve vetted your fabricator on the front end to be reputable, you just spit in his face, and virtually called him a crook. That's totally not the right way to handle that.
