Great Family Room Potential - Design + Kid Friendly Sofas?
Comments (18)Pottery Barn has sofas with indoor-outdoor Sunbrella fabric, https://www.potterybarn.com/shop/new/sunbrella-feature I second those who've suggested starting good habits while kids are young -- teach them from the start how to treat furniture and the family belongings properly. And this is the time to start with rules like "no food or drinks in the living/family room"; and yes, it's perfectly fair to have one rule for the adults and another for the kids. Or you can limit what kind of food and drinks to allow kids -- when mine were young, it was water or apple juice only for them in the living room, no milk or grape/orange juice. Also, they grow fast : ) , so you don't really have to decorate around them too much (round ottomans vs. wood rectangular coffee table). I'd decorate for the room and with what you like. Buy quality the first time around. The arched fronts might be fairly easily removable. And I'd almost be tempted to have the builder drywall over the shelving above the arches....See MoreDesign ideas new home - mostly dining room, entrance, family room
Comments (3)I would forget the shelves by the fireplace. That TV is too high and could have gone on the left wall with a nice cabinet beneath with maybe some display and the sofa facing the TV and sitting on the rug so that you can access the door. Decor items and art are things you need to shop for. The art in the DR is hung too high , hang some art on the entry wall with a coat tree in the corner for guests and a shallow shelf under the art....See MoreMid Century-ish Family Room Help, Interior Design

Comments (8)I really like your room; it looks quite cozy. The stone wall is great. The seating would look more cohesive if you pulled the chair closest to the stone wall in toward the other seating. In the photos it seems a bit detached from the conversation group. The rug does seem too small for the space. It also is really close in color to the furniture and the stone, so it seems like a missed opportunity to bring in some color variation. I see that it's one of your recent purchases, but maybe you can find somewhere in the house to repurpose it as decoenthusiaste suggested. I'd like to see an oriental rug in there. https://www.rugsusa.com/rugsusa/rugs/oriental-weavers-836/Burgundy/132KHAR836C-990122.html https://www.rugsusa.com/rugsusa/rugs/oriental-weavers-8020l/Multi/1328020L-91001210.html https://www.rugsusa.com/rugsusa/rugs/oriental-weavers-465/Terracotta/132KHAR465J-990122.html I don't think the website's mock-up tool was dialed in on the lighting; the rug looks overly bright for the lighting conditions in the photo....See MoreTheresa Janssen
