Two Sofas or Sectional for Open Family Room
Comments (38)Good morning all: Well, we went with two 100" Madison leather sofas in Brompton Cocoa from Casco Bay Furniture and they arrived last Thursday, several weeks before expected. We LOVE them! Our sofas were estimated to take about 16 weeks as the size was custom so frames had to be built from new pattern. In addition, Rob was kind enough to send us several hide samples from amongst the numerous they have at the warehouse so we could choose the color we liked. This too was supposed to add to the time and we were thinking a delivery time in May but last Thursday they arrived right on time. My family and I could not be happier. They look EXACTLY like RH Maxwell sofas. I understand that the ones from CB are superior in construction to the ones currently made in China by RH, but since we have only had them one week I can only tell you what they look and feel like. They are beautiful now and we are looking forward to seeing how they "weather" over time. My husband literally started on one end of one sofa, got up, moved down a little, all the way to the end of the second sofa to see if there was any sagging or lifting of cushions: there was none. When we went to the RH Outlet in Wrentham in December/January we sat on several 96"and 108" Lancaster and Maxwell sofas and found the sagging, and if one person sat on the end of one cushion with no one else in the middle, it would lift like a see-saw. The sofas on the floors of RH retail showrooms are most often over 5 years old from when they were constructed in the US: the ones at the Outlets are more consistent with quality of product if ordered today as they are typically customer returns. In the end, we could not be happier and I look forward to doing more business with Casco Bay in the future. /Users/christine/Pictures/iPhoto Library/Previews/2012/04/10/20120410-112846/IMG_1678.jpg /Users/christine/Pictures/iPhoto Library/Previews/2012/04/10/20120410-112808/IMG_1677.jpg /Users/christine/Pictures/iPhoto Library/Previews/2012/04/10/20120410-112846/IMG_1681.jpg...See Morehelp with new family room sofa
Comments (23)Sewmuch2 I am glad I saw this thread. I don't subscribe to emails and was asually looking at the threads and dfon't go to page 3 usually:) I am loving the sectional now and don't even see the angles anymore:) I still have to complete the decoration of the room because I got sidetracked with landscape. I got a couple of blue pillows from Target and they look great on the sofa. It adds a lot of substance to the huge room. I am happy with the purchase. Please let me know if you want any pictures. Can anyone give me any suggestions on how to decorate the tv wall. We out all the equipment for the tv in the wall behind so that we won't see the wire clutter but now the floating tv bothers me. We will change the size if the tv to a bigger one later on. The Tv is off the center of the wall because we centered it to the opening form the kitchen. I am thinking about putting a ladder like shelf to the side and a bog console table or ikea expedite under the tv. Any suggestions, please?...See MoreKid friendly tips/ideas for newly renovated house?
Comments (18)I have an 8,9 and 12 yo. A few items to add to already great advice... KIds seem to create copious amounts of artwork. We used to string clothesline and clothespins in the garage and the hall to the laundry room. They could hang up and take down the art themselves. You can display a ton of stuff very easily and take it down with no fuss or damage. The cubbies I see in most mudrooms are too small to hold shoes. Especially as my girls love Uggs and they take up a lot of space! Make sure you allow enough space for shoes AND boots in the mudroom. I don't like a chest of drawers in a kid's rooms. They are never closed! If possible, put inexpensive ikea chests or even just shelves, inside the closet so keep the mess in there. Every day before dinner they pick up any scattered toys/books/stuff and they go in a large basket --- Friday night they have to empty that basket and put the items back in their respective rooms. Anything left Saturday morning goes to Goodwill (never happened). No after school snack until your shoes coat and backpack are put away. I don't know if you are remodelling but very soon you will want to have established places for the following 1 Where do they use the computer? We strictly limit screentime of any kind, so we have one MAC desktop for them and it is visible from the kitchen and family room. 2 Where do they watch TV? We don't want to make it easy to watch TV (it is too easy already), so we only have one. 3 Where can they do crafts? We were able to devote a room to this, and my kids have always just wondered in there when they have free time and busied themselves. 4 Where can they do homework? You need both quite spaces where they are out of the mainstream, and places where they can work while you oversee....See MoreFamily friendly Loft needs help.
Comments (42)I don't think TV should take up the longest wall in a space while seating gets squeezed into shorter ones. Swivel bases are made to adjust TV for everyone in the room. There's always the option putting TV on the window wall, though and floating the sofa facing it with the lounger right or left of it. This is one of those "push & shove" spaces where you just have to try all the possible arrangements before you do anything permanent....See Moregracie01 zone5 SW of Chicago
