Design ideas new home - mostly dining room, entrance, family room

Wife didn't want to decorate the new home. Hired an interior decorator who bought a bunch of crap. Now trying to go back and fix things.

Looking to fill spots in as well. Not great at this stuff as well.

Family Room

Thinking of changing the shelves to floating straight shelves maybe? I think we have this rug in the garage (https://www.wayfair.com/rugs/pdp/mercury-row-marcelo-hand-tufted-woolcotton-ivory-area-rug-mcrr7867.html ) wife liked it, then got it. Decided she didn't like it arrived. Doesn't want to deal with decorator to arrange for a return.

Family room facing Kitchen - want to take down this fake plants

Not sure what to replace it with.

Wife wants to restain the cabinets to white or light gray. on top. Need to add handles. Not sure how hard or difficult that can be be. I'd love to replace the doors eventually ( we didn't get to choose the cabinets).

Entrance ---

Dining room wall - needs something. Mirror on floor was too heavy for the wall. Not centered with studs. Trying to mount it on the dry wall ripped it up.

Thinking of maybe trying to mount the mirror above the entrance photo above the hooks.

I would go with mill wood shelves instead reclaimed ones, because your home decor is not so rustic. Here is another idea to use etageres.

You have a lot on your plate. It's not necessary to decide everything all at once unless you are paying a decorator and contractor to swoop in and do everything. Since the living room ideas are not flowing, I would hold off on making a plan. You'll learn things and get inspiration while you are working on the other rooms. I'm not sure of the style of your house but careful about adding trendy or expensive permanent changes that might clash. Your bedroom wood wall looks a modern farmhouse element and your kitchen cabinet style and finish look a bit Tuscan. If you are dying to make new purchases for the living room, I would start with a great rug and build from there. You have a great space and it looks very livable. There is no need to jump in and make a bunch of changes right away.

Hi, sunkissed. On second thought I think the Brimnes is too tall. In my mock-up the idea was to have the storage unit to serve as an impromptu place for a person to set a drink or an appetizer plate if they are seated in one of your gray arm chairs. Basically, a credenza height. A height of 37" may make that uncomfortable. So, I'm leaning towards a total height of about 30". The EKET series has some good options. The first one is just over 10' wide. The second is 11 1/2' wide. Both are just over 31" tall. Here's a mock-up of scale to show you how the height would differ. For reference the chairs are 35 3/4" tall.

While grover’s solution is a good one, I think the niche is screaming for a built-in the full width of the niche.. Our house has one, with room for a 65-inch TV (my husband bought one within 5 minutes after moving in!). It has doored cabinets along the bottom and shelves on one side. I added another shelf on top of the TV area, to fill in the blank space there — and to prevent my hubby from buying an even larger TV!!!! I think it would be perfect for your space.

It is actually not a new house, just new to us. The sun room is one of those porches attached to the house. It is all windows including the 3 doors. I think right now there is those vertical hanging blinds. Yuck! We are hoping to keep the idea of the sun room, but just put on an addition in its place so that we can get rid of the slider off of the kitchen.

I would forget the shelves by the fireplace. That TV is too high and could have gone on the left wall with a nice cabinet beneath with maybe some display and the sofa facing the TV and sitting on the rug so that you can access the door. Decor items and art are things you need to shop for. The art in the DR is hung too high , hang some art on the entry wall with a coat tree in the corner for guests and a shallow shelf under the art.
