You might find that thread via a search. If I can remember the name of the person who owns a kitchen with a corner sink not under a window but near one, I'll post a link to her finished kitchen pics. One less corner cab with its awkward storage is a plus. A downside is that it's a bit more crowded to have two people at the sink. And if you're vertically challenged like I am ;-) wiping behind the sink requires lots of stretching and contortions (I currently have a corner sink set-up). Some people love them, some detest them. I like mine but even so, I'm not keeping it when we remodel. We're moving the cook top off the island and I need to shift the sink out of the corner so that I gain more prep room between sink and cook top. It will still be under a window because we're replacing the existing window with one that is 6" wider. Enlarging the window or shifting the one you have to the left is an option for you. You'll need to decide whether a corner sink is a good choice in order to keep the other window and have more counter between sink and range. Maybe you can find one at a local kitchen showroom to try out.

Opinions on your questions: 1. Pocket vs. swing door: I'm not a big fan of pocket doors on bathrooms because they're more of a pain to close and lock. If you close and lock bathroom doors in your house. :-) 2. Benches are not mandatory. I prefer niches for storing shampoo and soap. Benches are usually to put your leg on when shaving. If you do have one in that corner, I'd recommend a triangular shaped one instead of square. There are pre-fab, ready-to-tile benches like this: I think the shower controls are fine where you drew them, on the bottom wall. Other thoughts: 4. code says toilet back to front should be 5' clear. Can you bump the wall a few inches to attain that? 5. I'd hinge the shower door on the other side. That will allow a towel rack on the bottom wall. You can easily fit a 48" vanity in that space. I'd definitely do it. On design, the typical "period appropriate" materials would be subway tiles in the shower and hex tiles on the floor. You could use natural marble on the floor if you wanted to splurge. I used larger hex porcelain in a powder room (not technically "period" but "in the style of"): With a neutral white/gray in the permanent stuff, you could pick your favorite splash of color for the walls. Or use that dark gray that's greenish, and use accessories, towels, etc. for the color. Your dining room is to die for, btw. Great work!

a) first, disclaimer-am not the greatest reader of plans, so I hope somebody else chimes in..but in order to make this kitchen bigger you ought to move the walls and eat into other rooms' spaces..as dining is fairly small, and the "dead space" has a half bath off it-the best space to do that would be the living..not sure whether it's a sort of scenario you like/envision you can make it visually bigger though..counter depth fridge..I'm usually not a fan of painting wood just because but here would make sense..I like how they tackled the oven..:) I'd say: change all appliances for stainless steel, more reflective..but this oven really looks good as is..on condition it works ok of course..so creating less contrast in the kitchen, in this particular case, will make it feel bigger or so I believe b) how about half lounge/half walk-through pantry? something like a long buffet, for all sorts of dining stuff/additional dishes etc...maybe shelves over it with books, maybe TV..maybe both..? and a light sofa/couple armchairs where the current sofa is so you use that room as additional storage but also can sit in there doing something..reading..watching TV? actually you know how they made these visually light storage walls, in mcm style? these often contain both storage space and a space for desk/secretaire..so you have a small office of sorts as well. this style is wildly popular again right now so won't be as cheap as was, say, 7 years ago when I re-discovered it for myself..but it is possible to find something very functional and good looking like that in vintage stores etc. which still will be much cheaper than new stuff but made much better. all that given you're ok wit the style of course. doesn't have to be mcm by the way-but mcm will look like taking less space..usually. and using room like this half hidden storage room half private lounge in a way-it feels more of a private space=less weird to use a half bath over there what do you think?

..what roarah says. but will be more than that. I'm 99% sure your house contains asbestos..so take cost of professional abatement into account everytime you're thinking of disturbing these walls. check first of course, maybe it doesn't, maybe it doesn't have it everywhere(like ours did..walls, floors, HVAC, you name it) but I'd be very very surprised invite a GC (several, really) when you close..let them walk the place, give you quotes on different scenarios for different scopes of your project. Decide what you can afford to do (and know that it will still most likely turn out to be more expensive because you'll find additional things, something will come as unexpected, etcetera. Most likely will also take longer. Than you think) Then enlist somebody that can design. Or you don't have to-we didn't-but just know it's easier that way. The more pros you have by you(the ones you can trust) the better. During such major reno it ll be very hard or maybe impossible to live in the house. I trust you have somewhere to live meanwhile? It'd be studs. As for it being small, ours wasn't also very big(under 1700..we did added a bit so now it's underv 1900 sq f) ..still took us 27 months(I think..) since purchase to moving in. We didn't count the money we sank into it as not to oversadden ourselves..:) and we still have the backyard to take care of (since as we added, they had to dig foundation and all), hardscaping etc. But it wasn't 100 K. It wasn't 200 K either. Maybe cheaper in Florida, I don't know. (we're in CA). Not sure as you have your own requirements, hurricane windows, and other stuff I don't know about. But everything you put in new-has to be up to the current code. At least here Having said that-the right for you and your family location trumps so many other things. Which is why we got into our remodel as well. And it's for sure anything but boring. But we were a bit naive as per costs and time, since I found this forum too late in the game..:) Be prepared, find good pros..will help with both expectations and execution living up to these expectations. If you want collective thinking beforehand, about design aspects-post plans. There are some very talented people here. Not me-I'm pretty bad and slow in reading plans and suggesting layouts. But many here are extremely talented and helpful in their suggestions.
