How to do a dryer vent through the slab?
Comments (16)While this is the ideal rarely is it the case anymore. Builders opt for making the laundry room more convenient to the kitchen which more often than not is in the central part of the home. As a chimney sweep for 40 years who tackled dryer vents early I learned convincing builders to alter their habits is futile much to the peril of homeowners. We suggest rerouting the vent up and out the roof. This is not optimum but normally the only feasible way to do it. The pipe should be metal but not aluminum and each joint should be taped with METAL tape not duct tape which will fail after a few years of heated use. Dryer vents can only be 35 feet long according to building codes and each 90 degree bend subtracts 5 feet from that total. Slab vents have 4- 90's thereby making the legal limit of the vent to be only 15 feet long. Rarely are they that short. The cleaning procedure detailed above is normal and time consuming but necessary for this faulty dryer vent design. As dryer vent cleaners we have perfected a system that works most of the time yet there are those that must be rerouted to be made more efficient....See Morelaundry detergent essentials
Comments (13)Mango, I can understand the routine with having a hard time keeping up. I too have an elderly mother that I care for on top of a myriad of other chores, job and responsibilities. Basically, I ended up with a routine that works for me. When I go to bed at night, I put a load in and when I get up in the morning, while the coffee is brewing I hang dry that load (or if you have a tumble dryer put in there) and start another load. Then... just keep up that cycle every day. It gets one load done per day. If you need to do more, then I understand, just dry that second load at night before you put in the next load, and you have 2 loads done per day. Then, I just dump on the bed and when I get a few minutes here and there through the day I fold them. By the end of the day there is no laundry sitting around and it is all folded and put away. OK, sorry for the slight hijack.... hehe Anyhoo... Yes, I notice a difference between powders and liquids. In general I prefer powders as I feel they attack the ground in dirt out of my clothes where the liquids don't. What you are talking about with the smell is sour laundry. Nothing will stop that from happening except drying your clothes right away. Thus, my routine so I keep up on laundry ;)...See MoreNewly Installed Rigid Vinyl Plank Flooring Makes Crackle Sound?
Comments (95)I hear or notice the noise way less now, but still hear it from time to time when walking over an area for the first time. We have a couple of seams that have a small gap forming. As others have pointed out and i have come to learn, the problems that we have with the floors are caused by the unevern (not flat) subfloor. So, from that perspective, i cant blame flooret. However, most people that are buying these vinyl floors are doing so for the advertised ”value” and installing them in extisting homes. When you consider the time and expense to make old subfloors PERFECTLY flat, they are no longer a good value. That is my biggest complaint at this point; they drastically under communicate the amount of time and money required to achieve the desired outcome. To those of you who installed these Flooret floors, im sorry and hang in there. The noise and /or your attention to it will improve greatly over time....See MoreWhat are your questions about laundry room trends?
Comments (37)I have always felt that architects and designers give laundry rooms short shrift. I think people can spend a lot of time in the ‘laundry’ ‘doing the laundry’, but also folding clothes, doing little fix it projects, storing the Costco detergents and so forth, flower arranging, and caring for Fido and kitty in that little orphan of a room. And, oh, ironing! I suspect not many do ironing any more, but I do, and I have to drag the ironing board all over the house to find a nice spot. And we have never owned a home with a laundry room that featured a good exhaust fan or even a ceiling fan. The laundry room concept could really use a major redesign for the average American home, IMHO. LOL. Just my 2 cents. 😍...See More- 4 years ago
