Hardwood - Finished on site vs pre-finished?
Comments (15)floorguy and glennsfc what would you use. We need l000 square feet of hardwood. Our island will be in a dark stained rift quarter sawn oak. The hardwood will go in the kitchen, eating area, living room (great room for those three rooms), den and one bedroom. We would like to use oak on the floor to match the island, but have it stained in a medium brown color. In the past two hardwood finished on site floors we used glitza water based finish. I don't know if glitza is still allowed because of the ureaformaldyhydes (sp??) but would like a satin finish. Maybe we shouldn't be so close minded about unfinished. Maybe we should buy finished but we have to get longer lengths then are usually offered. In VAncouver, B.C. all we see is 4 to 5' at the longest. Just looks like a quilt. And for a l000 square feet of mostly open area that could be deadly. My mind is open and I look forward to your opinions. I know you know a lot more then I do. Can hardly wait to hear your opinions....See MoreJanuary Quilting/Sewing Goals
Comments (60)Woo Hoo....yesterday, after 3 attempts at sewing my first seam in almost 15 years and then finally getting it right, then sewing my next two seams on the incorrect sides of the pieces (I had to use a pin to pick it out because I don't know where my seam ripper from 15 years ago is), I finally got into a good rhythm and was able to finish up the inside 4 patches of a 9-patch block that is the first of two January birthday blocks. Then I made a mistake from misunderstanding a "how to" picture on a pattern. This required much more seam ripping than what I could do with a little pin and I decided to put it away until I was less frustrated and could go out and purchase an actual seam ripper. THEN...my eyes beheld a small tin of sewing supplies that I just inherited about 10 days ago from my grandmother. I wondered "Could there possibly be a seam ripper in it? Please, oh, please!" Tentatively, I looked through the tin.....YES! I hit pay dirt. I haven't felt so elated since....who even remembers when. So I ripped out the seam and tonight I WILL FINISH THIS BLOCK!!! Yahoo....one more block to go, then I have two February birthdays...whew. Salijo...See MoreAre you quilting this weekend? July 25-27
Comments (29)Finally got these little things together to go to a friend's first grandchild. (don't know if it's a girl or boy - they won't tell!) ..but I fell in love with a little pack of fat quarters, probably broke most every rule in the quilter's world (I'm hiding from the quilt police now!!! but they all get mailed tomorrow). There is the crib quilt, a crib pad, the little cradle blankie and board book. Saw the hourglass pattern for blocks on some blog somewhere and the rest was just 'sew as I go'.....and kept sewing and sewing because I was obsessed and ended up using every scrap of those fat quarters!! Now I've promised hubby to LEAVE my machine put away and do some cleaning and garden work......oh dear. Not sure I can do this..........................See MoreAre you quilting this weekend? July 3-5
Comments (14)This week my F-I-L got shelves installed in my 2nd smaller sewing room closet and DH had them painted earlier this week, so I spent majority of yesterday unpacking 8 or 9 boxes and put things away in the closet. Still have more unpacking to do this summer. Got most of our art work hung this week, but still need to hang family photos later this summer. We got trim installed our full bath this week, will be reglazing our tub Monday and then toward the end of next week it will get painted and then we should be done with that project. Later in the year DH wants to renovate my sewing room and laundry room, which I am excited to have done, but my sewing closets will be sealed during that time to avoid construction dust, so I am trying to figure out what supplies from the closets I will need for projects that I can get ahead of time. Have been working on my Granny Square Quilt blocks for my RV quilt and quilted Christmas ball ornaments which will be for my Mom's Christmas present and will continue to work on these 2 things this weekend. Some of my family is coming to my house this afternoon and we are picking up seafood to serve at my house. I just could not sleep this morning, so I got up at 7am and cut up 2 cantelopes to chill in the frig for dessert this evening. Webster's online dictionary used to be free, but when I checked it just now they are starting to charge for the use of it...... guess it's a good thing I kept my Webster's dictionary and thesaurus books from college. Hope everyone has a Happy 4th of July!...See More- 4 years ago
