Walk-in Shower - Glass wall/door or shower curtain?
Comments (7)After staying in a hotel last week with a walk in shower approximately 36" deep with a shower curtain, I strongly advise against a shower curtain. Assuming your bathroom will have an exhaust fan to help ventilate the moisture from the shower, you have to expect the shower curtain to be impacted by the moving air. The warm shower air is drawn up over the curtain into the fan. And of course more air needs to be drawn into the shower, so how does it get in there? That's right, it blows the curtain into the shower allowing the air to go under the curtain. Trying to shave my legs with a wet shower curtain sticking to my legs and arms and behind is very unpleasant. When I redo my master shower I will definitely be going with a glass door and/or fixed panel....See Morealternatives to shower curtains and glass doors
Comments (7)I know what you mean about not wanting either. We are adding another bathroom in our remodel which will contain a shower -- no tub. It is not a large shower, but we will not have a door or curtain of any type. The shower head faces the back of the shower, there will be a step over to get into the shower, and outside of that is the "dry off" area. I hope this all works and water doesn't run all over! There is a heat/ventiator over the shower to keep us warm. I hope that works too....See MoreGlass doors vs. shower curtain over a whirlpool tub
Comments (2)Handshowers that come with Roman tub faucets are not for use in a shower situation with a drop in tub. They are for cleaning the tub or rinsing shampoo out of the hair of a seated bather. If you wanted a tub/shower unit, you would have needed to have designed the installation as such from the beginning and used a tub that was designed with an integral tile flange and then used a wall mounted tub/shower type of faucet instead of a deck mounted Roman tub faucet. Those tub/shower types of whirlpools are usually designed for alcove installation where a glass door can work with them just fine. But, since you've already put in what you have, the only way to use safely such a tub as a shower without setting yourself up for a lot of water damage is to do a "ring" shower curtain like you would for the old fashioned claw foot tubs. It's basically a rectangular suspended curtain rod that you use shower curtains with. A glass door of any variety will not work in your situation, as it will not keep the water off of the tub deck and walls, which is the big danger with using a drop in tub in such a situation. The water that splashes on to the walls and deck has no way to drain back into the tub because the lip of the drop in interferes. The water has to go somewhere, and that usually is your floor or into the walls and deck surround. This makes for a nasty moldy rotten mess in a few years....See MoreSliding glass shower door vs curtain for 96 x 51 bathroom
Comments (5)You can counteract the dark color of walls and floor with a light brightly colored fabric shower curtain. Buy something pretty and install a tie-back on one side so when dry it can be swept back and provide that open look. It will give the bathroom that sense of "finish" for when prospective tenants come to view your rental. The last thing you want to do down the road is try to restore glass doors that haven't been properly maintained....See Moremmmm12COzone5
