Custom walk in shower glass door width
Comments (2)Our walk in is 60 x 52 with the walk in on the short side. We are doing French doors, 26" each. The glass company said it made no difference to them whether we did fixed or stationary panels. Since this will be our roll-in wheelchair shower if that ever becomes necessary we thought the widest possible opening would be the best choice. HTH....See MoreShower curtain AND glass doors?!
Comments (21)For those starting from scratch with their shower door/curtain, there is a halfway solution. in the world of disability design there are things called ”caregiver doors.” it is a shower door system that only goes to around a yard to 40” high. They differ from regular shower doors in that they are bifold doors (like on a closet) - though they are made of glass. This ensures that in a curbless shower you don’t accidentally spray outside the shower with your handheld shower, as you can easily do by hitting a curtain with a strong stream of water. Then, above the shower hemi-doors you put a shower curtain that hangs down a bit inside the doors. This allows a caregiver to reach into a shower to assist someone inside while remaining dry. It seems like a very smart design to me. The wide open shower when the doors are open allow for manipulation of a shower chair. Partially open doors or closed doors will drip dry quickly after a shower....See MoreOpinions Please. Shower curtain or shower door???
Comments (43)This is a no-brainer for me - - SHOWER CURTAIN!!!! I LOVE the look of a traditional tie back fabric curtain on the outside of my walk-in shower with a mold and mildew resistant plastic shower curtain (NOT A LINER) inside. The fabric curtain stays beautiful and only gets washed once in a blue moon. The plastic (non PVC) curtains which I buy in Walmart for $8 get tossed out every 6 months. That beats the extra $1,000 for installing doors. I never have a problem with water getting on the floor. I simply have to make sure the plastic inner curtain is inside the base of the shower plate----just as I would have to make sure the shower doors were closed if I had doors. I can't stand shower doors. Mold builds up in the tracks or collects along the bottom even with frameless doors. Who wants to squeegee the glass doors and wipe them down on a regular basis? Not me-I often take 2 showers a day, especially in the summer....See MoreGlass doors or shower curtain for step-in shower?
Comments (11)I have a wheelchair accessible shower - no lip whatsoever. I use a heavy vinyl shower curtain from Hammacher Schlemmer here. It does not billow outward whatsoever. It billows inward just a bit. I have never had any water exit the shower using either the traditional wall shower head or the rain shower in the center of the shower. My trench drain is right under where the shower curtain hangs. My curtain just hits the floor. You could do a few things if you have a lighter shower curtain liner. You can add weights to the bottom of the curtain by sewing them into a hem on a fabric curtain. These Pie Weights would work for that, if you get enough. They are 10" each, so maybe you get three and place one on each end and one in the middle. Lead fishing weights might be easiest because they have a slot in them, through which you can put thread to sew them in place. You may be able to side the shower curtain fabric into a slot, I don't know. Or you can hot glue or sew weights to the bottom of a shower curtain on the outside of the curtain. If you get pairs of magnets, you can add weight to a hem by placing magnets on either side of the fabric, with the back side of one magnet locking onto the front side of another on the other side of the fabric. Or use these steel washers on one side of the curtain and rare earth magnet on the other side. Or these sets that give you the magnet, a steel cup to hold it, and a steel washer for it to hold onto. That sounds pretty heavy. The steel cup may help keep the magnet from attaching to your wheelchair if it gets too close....See MoreRelated Professionals
