NEED Advice - glass door vs shower curtain!!
Comments (17)umm, seattlemike and sippimom, what do you mean glass is a mess to keep clean? Do you just mean waterspots and soap splash? coz I could live with that, maybe hit it with windex and a squeege once a week. Now, the pink stuff growing at the bottom of my shower curtain that won't bleach out--that's gross to me. Of course I like the look of crystal clear glass, but if I don't expect it to look that way every day, I think I could live with glass. Years ago I was at a friend's dad's house. He was a very successful businessman and it was a multimillion dollar mansion. Very interesting to see all the do dads inside. He had a spacious 270 degree glass shower. She showed me the squeege he used HIMSELF to clean the shower every morning when he was done. I'll never forget that; all that money, and he still cleaned his own shower every day. So i guess my question is, if my goal is not crystal clear but just avoiding a mold collage, how hard will maintenance be?...See MoreShower curtain AND glass doors?!
Comments (21)For those starting from scratch with their shower door/curtain, there is a halfway solution. in the world of disability design there are things called ”caregiver doors.” it is a shower door system that only goes to around a yard to 40” high. They differ from regular shower doors in that they are bifold doors (like on a closet) - though they are made of glass. This ensures that in a curbless shower you don’t accidentally spray outside the shower with your handheld shower, as you can easily do by hitting a curtain with a strong stream of water. Then, above the shower hemi-doors you put a shower curtain that hangs down a bit inside the doors. This allows a caregiver to reach into a shower to assist someone inside while remaining dry. It seems like a very smart design to me. The wide open shower when the doors are open allow for manipulation of a shower chair. Partially open doors or closed doors will drip dry quickly after a shower....See MoreWhat do you think - shower curtain or glass door
Comments (13)The vanity is dark (but not espresso or ebony) wood in something between transitional and contemporary style, nothing traditional or vintage, but not super modern either) , although we're definitely leaning toward a modern vibe this go-around. As for the cost, I love the cost of the shower curtain liner from Target ($2.39 plus $.99 for the rings) but a shower door was in the original budget, so that's good (we're on budget). Thanks for all your thoughts. We'll probably live with the curtain for a few weeks and then decide, but I'd guess we'll go for the door....See MoreGlass Shower door pulling marble shower wall away from drywall.
Comments (15)"What could cause this to happen?" It's more an issue with the hinge screws not being anchored to the wall framing versus the marble not being properly installed. With the weight and moment of the door pulling on the upper hinge, and with the hinges only being secured to the "marble slab", it caused the slab to separate from the wall. " How can it be fixed?" As has been discussed,if you can add blocking from behind, do it. Reset the slab so it's tight to the backer, then run longer hinge screws through the slab and into the framing. " Who should fix it?" Your GC from the original build is responsible for the details, or in this case, the lack thereof. He should have seen this coming. Ultimately, the GC is responsible for the failure. The guy who installed the marble, it's really not his worry. The glass installer, he should have known that screws set only in a wall slab would not be sufficient long term. The failure is on the GC and the glass guy, partially on the glass guy for not raising an objection. The repair? You'll want to hire someone new to install the blocking and repair the drywall. If your GC is still around, ring him up. Then have the glass guy back to properly anchor the hinges in to the new blocking....See MoreStacey Collins
