Mission Impossible? Help ? Narrow lot plan, with 3 car garage
Comments (33)Do you plan to use the 3rd bay in the garage for every day parking or is it more for storage or for a car with more occasional use? If the latter you could consider doing a tandem garage on one side. If you want a front facing garage I would try to set it back some so it isn't the thing you see sticking out first. Although frankly when you are on wider lots or acreage you often see the side facing garage just as much if not even more than the front facing ones so I don't think in those cases that a side facing does nearly the same for a house as it does on a narrower lot, where it doesn't become as visible from the street. Our neighborhood have many side facing garages including ours, and I see those garages and sides of houses a whole lot more than I see the front of the houses as I'm driving by or even as I'm out running I see the sides more than the front. I actually wish I had thought about that and changed it to a front facing that was set back a little instead as it would have worked better with house access from the drive way etc. Only the houses that are placed along a curved part of the road do I see less of the garage. One has it on the side, but in the way back and still attached and that one you do see a little less of it than the majority that have them to the front side....See MoreThe Impossible Room
Comments (3)We had a loft bed with desk below it for our younger son, but by the time he was about 10, he got very tired of having to climb in and out of bed all the time, the bed was horrible to make, and as he got tall enough he felt like he was almost hitting the ceiling as he climbed in (we only have 8 ft ceilings in our home). A futon style bed is okay for short term, but not supportive and not great for long term use. A drawing to scale would help a lot, as was mentioned. Could you pull out the window seat and put the head of the bed where the window seat was? What about a murphy bed?...See MoreImpossible living room layout, tight budget, and loosing hope
Comments (29)You live in such a fantastic location! One of my kids recently moved to OBX, is also in a kind of small place, has some mismatched hand-me-down furniture and a tight budget. You might try the Ikea in Virginia or College Park, Maryland. Perhaps one of those is closer to you. If I were you I would remove the bookcases, get a few of those ikea fiskbo photo frames and hang those alongside and/or above the tv. I think you might like a few larger pieces of art on that wall rather than a lot of little things on the bookshelves. It would give the visual appearance of less *stuff* in the room. You should have lots of opportunities to take some gorgeous photos to go in the frames. Or you could frame fabric you love, get some kind of downloadable art from etsy, calendar pages if they're the right size, all kinds of things. If you like watercolors that Waterlogue app is pretty cheap. You could get some paper and colored pencils and color in some geometric shapes and frame that. I'd maybe put a large tile or something on top of the umbrella stand and use it as a makeshift table beside the pink chair, handy to put a drink on it or something. I'd get rid of the table currently beside the pink chair (move the chair further from the front door) and get rid of the end table between the futon and the front door. Or I'd get rid of the two end tables and move the table currently beside the pink chair to a spot alongside the futon. I'd get rid of one or two of the lamps and either the coffee table or the ottoman. You can get some pretty cheap floor lamps at ikea, and one of those would take up a lot less space probably than the end table. I think my home is cute, my furniture matches, I have window treatments and art I love on the walls. At this point in my life I think I could trade it for a small place on the OBX full of mismatched hand-me-down furniture........and paddleboards, kayaks, surfboards, kiteboards and bicycles. Good luck and have fun whatever you decide!...See MoreDoor for impossible spot
Comments (11)Unfortunately, I can't really change the structure in that area to allow for a larger door area. There is a structural beam that runs to the left of the doorway and then through where the bathroom is located, we would have to add an addition to our home to allow for more room- not really wanting to add on to our home and it's not in the budget. I wish we could have French doors (thanks for the pics!), but the doorway is very narrow, so the French doors would have to be extremely slim- not sure how that would all work out. I might be stuck with this funky door! Maybe I should embrace it?! I've thought about a small bi-fold door instead...maybe an option??...See MorePinebaron
