Horrible Customer Service Experience at David Austin Roses USA
Comments (42)ut you last post is the stressed part. You or anyone can not make that assumption of who is more stressed. You do not know their life. When I had breast cancer, my garden was my outlet for stress more than any other time in my life. I wintersowed very slowly because I could hardly do it, but it gave me a sense of purpose and things to come in the spring. I dreamed through the catalogs of what to buy believing I would be there to live to see them bloom. I tended my plants best I could in spring. I'm sorry I'm getting teary eyed now. I'm sorry. I know what cancer is like. My dad had chemical based leukemia, 14% chance of survival.. he didn't. Treatment was horrible, he did a clinical trial, I have to say that what he went through in the month plus that he was doing the clinical trial, I don't know why anyone would fight that particular cancer. Back to the garden & plants. When he came out of the hospital he was greeted by plants. My hubby, son & I worked really hard to plant his vegetable garden at his new house (it closed a week after being diagnosed) plus I duplicated my gardens at his house. We'd dug up a few of his roses, plus I bought more. I even bought a daylily that was not common, which I now call Matty for him. He was speechless when he came home. We used to like to sit on his porch & watch the butterflies & hummingbirds. While he wasn't allowed near the plants due to his particular type of cancer, he could sit there and enjoy it. He wasn't allowed to eat his veggies either until he went into remission a few months later. His guardian angel gave us really warm weather until November, we were able to have his Hungarian peppers in my stuffing for Thanksgiving. Through his whole nightmare, gardening & plants brightened the time he was out of the hospital. I'm not able to buy a lot of plants any more due to my back problems. There's a reason why I haven't added many photos to helpmefind, I'm not able to walk around the garden like I used to. I do want to buy a few roses next year & will probably be buying from David Austin. Since I'll use a regular credit card, I doubt I'll have issues and so far have not had a bad experience the last time we ordered. I'd ordered a Benjamin Britten rose, it was horrible, a phone call or email with no questions asked and they replaced it....See MoreDavid Austin's Supplementary List
Comments (58)I am very surprised by a few things here, first of all in my garden Heritage & Pat Austin are both very healthy & constantly in bloom, compared to a few other Austin's they are better by leaps and bounds (CPM, crocus, jude, I'm looking at you). Also, I always hear people talking about Crocus rose being so healthy for them, yet for me it is always the first rose (Austin or non austin) to get blackspot, and definitely the first to completely defoliate, usually by early June it is naked & looks horrid amongst my other happily blooming roses. I was hoping it would grow out of it, I really wanted to put it on the ground this year, it has been in a very large pot for 2 1/2 years, but it ALREADY has blackspot here in early april, so I think I may be removing it soon, I don't know if it would be any better in the ground, but I don't want to go though all the trouble of planting it if it is going to completely defoliate every year, I have too limited space to deal with that. Roseseek, that is a very interesting observation and it definitely makes sense, nature is often so surprisingly purposeful in its actions. Too bad some of the new, human made cultivars can't take a hint & hold off on the blackspot until late summer! Jessica...See MoreHelp arranging David Austins
Comments (31)Definitely overload! :) It's good overload though and I'm hoping to at least order some by tomorrow. I realized I was giving Jude about ten feet at the end of the bed there (turns out perspective matters, lol) so I'm squeezing in another back there. I just can't decide which. I think I have to have Golden Celebration and Abe. But Lady of Shalott is so pretty too! Maybe later when I have more room? (No idea where that would be!) I discovered Nahema. I've been reading and staring at pictures and it looks pretty perfect. Teasing Georgia is a very nice flower but doesn't quite make my heart flutter like Nahema! I'm leaning toward getting it instead. That would make for a lot of pink. It makes me happy that you listed it KS! Any idea how big it will get compared to Eden? This bed is on the side of the house, and I honestly don't go over there all that much now. With roses over there I would :) We've lived here five years and never done anything in the yard except put in a couple tomatoes and weed and weed and weed. And weed and weed... you get the idea ;) We had a baby when we moved and now have another little stinker who is getting around on his own so this is the first time we're really getting the yard put in. (I think the previous owners did a lot of vegetable gardening because we still get swiss chard volunteers like crazy and there are no perennials or shrubs.) Fragrance is nice but not a must. I have no idea what myrrh smells like so I'm trying to avoid it a little, but who knows, maybe I'll love it! (Or maybe it will grow on me.) Our neighbor's house faces this wall so it would be nice if they looked good, but with the utilities out there I don't think it will ever be a real showstopper so I'm not going to worry too much about how it looks, just preferably not too twiggy/gangly. I'd really like to be able to have fresh roses in the house. I LOVE having flowers around, and it's especially nice if they smell good. I know most of these won't last longer than a few days but that's ok :)...See MoreHortico 2018 & David Austin 15% Coupon
Comments (7)@Erasmus YES! Hortico sends good bareroot plants budded on new seedlings (as rootstock) to prevent the spread of virus. Some varieties are bigger than others, but that’s due to the variety’s vigor. Because of their conscientious and transparent policy against spreading virus, Hortico is my preferred source for roses in general, but especially for David Austin roses. 30% of my roses gotten directly from DA-USA have been virused. They will replace them for you, but don’t actively hold their growers accountable for spreading virus, and so the vicious cycle continues indefinitely. I have a suspicion that some of their mother plants are virused, I don’t think it’s possible to find a clean plant of Constance Spry in North America unless it’s been indexed by UC Davis. Even though shipping is higher from Canada, Hortico’s DA’s are $19 each as opposed to DA-USA’s price of $28. I have no affiliation with Hortico, but support and promote them because I like the way they conduct business, and don’t want them to close permanently like Pickering. They’re a family owned mom & pop shop. On the other hand, I personally feel that David Austin, Inc. is rich enough as it is, and abhor their plant patent politics. They are my last resort if I can’t find it somewhere else....See Morecomtessedelacouche (10b S.Australia: hotdryMedclimate)
