Actual decorating question! Hanging art
So, this weekend I've been hitting all those tasks I've been procrastinating for months, nigh on years for some. Today: hanging $@!+ on the walls. I have hung NINE THINGS so far. I am now down to this landscape. While I'd love to look at it all the time, I really don't have a good place for it in the often-used rooms, so it's going in the small guest/music room with the other similar pieces (which makes sense, actually).
Question: Does it go in the center of the wall, or to the right, centered over the table at the head of the daybed. I think it should be centered on the wall, but I'm seeking affirmation. A picture of the rest of the space included for context.

Comments (13)You could use a much shorter lamp there to get rid of it blocking the view. However, it seems like a piece of art centered on that wall might not work......... that wall is basically the dividing line between two different rooms, right? (Yes, it's a great room... but the way the furniture is.... it just seems divided.) I would be confused about what to put up for that reason alone.... :) Personally, I would do a grouping of mirrors.... Something hung like these "Garden District" mirrors from Ballard: I'm not sure if the dimensions on these particular ones are right for your space, but I think something similar could work and look very nice....See Morenew question: suggestions on art/decor for this big blank wall?
Comments (12)Gah, help me understand what I'm seeing. There's a wall mount tv near a fireplace with a tile surround/mantle (the top picture), and there's another wall mount tv near another fireplace that looks like plain drywall (the bottom picture). Are those two areas in the same room? How are they oriented to each other? Initially I'm agreeing with crn247. I would put something with height like a plant or large floor lamp at the rear corner of the sectional (where it meets the wall) and use that as a visual stop for that area. Then decorate before that as one space, and after it (desk area) as another space -- but making sure that the two areas compliment each other. Is that mirror (or thing that looks like a mirror) to the right of the tv in the bottom picture something that's built in, or something that moves? What is it? (e.g. is it a mirror you had hoped to hang...?)...See MoreArt or No Art, that is the question?
Comments (23)Thanks for all the great ideas. I would like all the furniture pieces to stay in the room, plus no other spot in the home for them. I am going to move the dresser under the window and move the chest of drawers to the wall where the dresser currently is and see how that looks and feels. TV may have to go as it is rarely used anyway. Not having a mirror over the dresser will be a change for me, lol. neverbedone - thanks for the picture, it really takes care of the space below the window and looks nice and neat. Olychick - Could I used draperies that match the current color of my Roman shades? I do want to keep them as they let light into a drab north/east room. Mrs S. - You are right, moving the chest of drawers would definitely give us some extra space when walking into the room and in front of the bed. TV not used much and it may go out of the room. RITA - Not looking for actually suggestions for art, just sizes and a pleasing placement on the wall. If I move the furniture pieces as suggested above, I may be able to also hang a piece above the chest of drawers. Comments (65)This OP has posted several dilemmas lately. I started reading this one from the onset and yes, there are several of the more critical posts missing. She clearly was happy about the selections and appeared to want validation from the people that had helped her with her other dilemmas. One of the first comments on my first dilemma on here was devastating to me and left me very upset. Fortunately, I have a thick skin and just flagged it and then along came some wonderful people to help me. Sometimes certain contributors just go too far. I'll keep an eye out, but for the mean time I'm going with centered. Here's how it ended up. The things on the table are too small, I think, so I will forage for other options there.

4 years agoThanks for the kind words, everyone. I scavenged this lamp from another room where it was sitting very unhappily and uselessly on a desk. It may not be quite tall enough, but it works for now, and gives this poor forlorn lamp a purpose.
I couldn’t figure out a good solution for a nightstand for a daybed in a small room. A table /nightstand would always be in the way, so I had the table at the head of the bed made. I’ve had a couple of guests use the room since then and it seems to do the trick It’s just 2 x 4 lumber with a dark stain.
The little stool is from the collection Frank Lloyd Wright did for Henredon back in 1955. It’s probably the least expensive piece of that collection available, but it holds a special place in my heart. Somewhere on my list of to-dos is getting it reupholstered in something more appropriate than that little 1980s floral pattern.
