Medical authorities in China have said a drug used in Japan to treat new strains of influenza appeared to be effective in coronavirus patients, Japanese media said on Wednesday.

Zhang Xinmin, an official at China’s science and technology ministry, said favipiravir, developed by a subsidiary of Fujifilm, had produced encouraging outcomes in clinical trials in Wuhan and Shenzhen involving 340 patients.

“It has a high degree of safety and is clearly effective in treatment,” Zhang told reporters on Tuesday.

There are brilliant and dedicated people in this world trying to get this under control. This is great news. I also admire and commend the people who are voluntarily submitting to trials of vaccines, etc. What would we do without all of them?

I read yesterday that a drug that was developed for the ebola outbreak, which has already had tested and approved by the FDA years ago, was showing that it did affect the covid virus. That would be great since it could be used immediately. They are testing it currently.

I was saying ( I am sure I am not the only one) we need a Manhattan Project effort to get this under control- between drugs of course, respirators available, all of this.

That would be so wonderful. Please G-d let it be so.

If we all can just stay the course as far as behavior to avoid infection, perhaps most of us and our loved ones will be alive when the drugs to treat this are available. Fingers crossed.
